Which is better for SHTF ammo; Radway Green  SS109 or Guatemalan  M193?                             The rifle I will be using is a like new late 80's green label Colt Hbar with a 1/7 twist rate.

I will take hot M193 over slower than normal SS109, any day of the week.

Either one will put zombies down.

If you are talking close range range terminal performance.... I'd take the M193.  That Radway Green is supposedly loaded a tad slower than M855 to perform in the SA80.

Radway,  all the way.  Better penetration against many target types.

The Radway I fired last week didn't seem downloaded at all. Penetrated 5/16th thick angle iron at 100yds easily.

I think the RG that was downloaded was the earlier stuff (pre 90's), I bought two cases of 92 headstamped and it was pretty hot, or at least it seemed like it. I really liked the Radway and so did all my rifles. 700 rounds fired to date with 0 problems. GOOD STUFF.

M193 IMG

if its GOOD and was stored right?

I like IMG  to me its just like Q3131.

If I was you save up some cash and buy Win Q3131 or Q3131A or Federal XM193

and a few mags of CHEAP Blue Box Black Hills 75gr. would be NICE.

If you are putting YOUR LIFE ON THE AMMO try to get the BEST you can.

I just bought 1k of federal XM193, it has been hard to get lately and not cheap.I was wondering for the price if the Guat. is worth picking up (alot cheaper & basically the same as XM193.)

Your SHTF ammo shouldn't be questionable surplus ammo.

There have been many documented cases here of problems with both of your choices.

I would stick with boxed federal XM193 or Winchester Q3131.

Just take a look at this page if you need further convincing.

If you got a lot of money, Hornady 75gr TAP or MK262 Mod1.

If you want something decent but won't cost you arm and a leg, and can find something comparable for training, XM193 (getting hard to find now) or Q3131/3131A.

+1 on the part about not trusting your life on questionable surplus.

Also, my way to verify ammo is to do both rapid and slow fire and burn through 300-500 rounds in one non-stop session, to see how the would be SHTF ammo works. That's my way of testing reliability of the ammo/gun combination.
