How is Guatemala 223/556? 55gr. in 360rd. battlepacks?
Thanks |
this stuff is awesome. i bought a bunch of it back when it was available. there were 2 kinds, one with BOs that had been sliced open to check for corrosion and newer stuff in sealed BPs that was pristine. it was HOT, and i believe every bit the equal of Q3131a. back when it was widely available another member posted an artcle from some business journal that said the plant in guatamala was run under contract by Olin with US equipment. if you can find it, buy it.

Just shot all mine a month ago great stuff shot just like Q3131/Q3131A
I think its made on win stuff! |
Now $64.87/battlepack its a shot show special at century. I bought lot of it a few years back and found it 100% reliable, clean and hot. thats abouit $181 per 1k |
So would 180.00 a case be a good price for this surplus ammo? Of course, if century is selling it for that, the secondary market maybe somewhat higher.
Link? wheres this stuff for sale, I may pick up a battle pack or two
Many moons ago I offered a guy two 360 rd battlepacks for $80. I told him hot the ammo was, but he didn't trust it.
Two weeks ago I sold ONE battlepack for $70.00. This guy knew what it was and was very happy. I also sold (gave) the same guy 200 rds of Hirt 308 for $50. Says he's not going to shoot any of it. He just wanted something that no one else had. |
Tag for link.
$65/360rds = .18/round. Not horrible, but not great for surplus. |
Have you been hangin out with Yoda thanks, Ron |
there is no link, Century puts out specials that they email those on the list. As stated above its a show show special, might not still be one sale. If you have a c&R you can get on the list.
Do we call Century Arms up and see if they are selling it? |
Your eyes, peeled they should be kept...... soon coming in, it should be. Patient you must be.
Made my day, that did..... |

Funny that one was... hmmm. |
Amusing, you fellows are.
I've never had the pleasure of shooting the Guatemalan stuff. Sounds like it's just like the Malaysian and Norinco 5.56 we used to know and love! |
A little birdie told me you might be able to soon |
If it's cheap Norinco... happy I will be thanks, Ron |
What do you consider cheap? |
I used to purchase 1700-round cases for about $110 locally here in Vegas. It was reloadable brass-cased as well. NEVER had problems running it throught my AR's or .223 AK's.
thanks, Ron |
I bought a bunch of the Guatemalan ammo through Dillon's a number of years ago. Still have 3 unopened battle packs left, and they are going to stay unopened until more of it is available (if ever.)
I don't know why the Guatemalans would have stopped making this stuff. Leastways, I guess they stopped, or we would still be getting it, wouldn't we? Don't they know they could export as much as they could make into the US, and get all that good hard cash coming back into their country? I would buy more in a heartbeat, it is good stuff. |
I'd sure like to get my hands on some more of it. I was given a few rounds of it a couple of years ago and was impressed.
So whats the deal with this ammo?
Anybody able to get any of this stuff? Is it available anywhere? Would love to get some to try out. |
Aim will have it in 10 days, $.17 when you buy three battle packs.
Thanks. |
Are you for real??? Is this the same stuff that was going around a few years ago (4 years I think)? Or is this a newer batch? |
there were 2 kinds on the market, battlepacks that had been opened for inspection and taped close, those had some slight corrosion on the brass. and the sealed packs that were bright and shiny and new.
ive still got some if someone wants a box to chronograph for the forum. |
Wow, I've been looking for an excuse to guy ammo over the internet (see my thread) seems like I finally have my answer. Oh, is this stuff good, safe, reliable? Comparable to winchester WB? or closer to wolf in qaulity?
This stuff is top of the line. Comparable to some of the best stuff. Along the lines of Q3131A or Federal AE, but much hotter. Its far from being Wolf. |
Much hotter than Q3131A? I doubt it. Maybe in perception, but Q3131A is already over the max allowed for SAAMI pressures.... and any "much" more pressue would begin to have brass damage, and potentially extraction problems. If it is military pressure, then is should be around 100-150fps faster than AE223, and 200fps or more faster than Wolf. The chrony will tell us. |
Is the Norinco good stuff? I have had several hundred rounds still sitting around. How does it perform? Does it fragment?
Crap ammo. I had used this in my AK-223 a while back (15 years ago), it is the only ammo that ever jammed in that gun. |
I havent chronoed it, but it does kick more than Q3131A, and ceretainly exceeds SAAMI limits. Actually it kicks more than any other ammo Ive tried.
I haven't gotten an e-mail from Century since November. Just checked and my e-mail alerts had been turned off.
I'll be watching AIM though for the next few days. |
"Kick" is perception, and has very little factual impact on pressure or muzzle velocity. It is also impacted by the amount of flash or noise created at the muzzle, which affects perceived "kick". It is just too unscientific, to mean.... well.... anything at all. |
"kick" is a generally accepted ammo evaluation technique in redneck testing. |
I bought a sealed battle pack from a freind for $70.00 that's stamped 85'. lot #4. Bright and shiny and the three rnds I fired into wet newsprint fragged just like the LC and Q3131 I tested. Doubt there's any flash retardant at all as I did notice the the brighter flash that others have mentioned .It has a sleeker bullet ogive than win Q3131 and appears to have a slightly longer OAL.
It also grouped higher than other ammo, or is that just redneck testing too? |
Nope - see, that is *measureable* and *repeatable*. Hypothesis. Theory. Fact...... that is the flow of reality. |
Is AIM really going to have Guatemalan 5.56 in a few days or this a sick twisted joke on us? |
I preordered 4320 rounds today. It is FACT!!!!!! $165 [or so] per 1080 rounds. Packs WILL be sold seperately but I don't buy ANY ammo by the pack anymore.
Talked with the phone lady, [she is darn nice] and am all set, when I get it I will give a report. [Unless I buy it ALL if it's good.] |
