i bought 880 rds  of wcc 85 headstamped ammo , packed in bandoleers and stripper clips in an ammo can today.

the bandoleers are printed 5.56mm , ball m193 , wcc85xxxxx.

is this ammo too old for relaible usage?

i have inspected all 880rds and they seem to be in excellent condition, no serious dings etc...

would this ammo be q3131 or q3131a?

sorry for my ignorance but any help would be appreciated.

Who knows what it is.  Assuming that they are not reloads that someone has placed into bandoleers, it could very well be one of the Q loads.  It also could be actual mil surp ammo from the Gov.

If you can say that they are not reloads, then the best thing to do is take 100 rds or so to the range and fire them off.  If they run 100%, then they are reliable.  You never know how ammo like this was stored.

Look at the primer crimp, if it is intact they are not reloads.  The annealing around the case mouth is another indicator but not the best one.
