Hi,

How are they? Are they reliable and clean? Will be using them for a class and will be shooting them thru a Bushmaster. I need an ammo that the bullet will not stick into a magnet due to range requirement.

TIA,

ASR

Kick because I'm curious about this company as well. 55-gr FMJ, brass cased, $155/1000 isn't a bad price.

I bought 250 rounds of Lancer Custom Ammo at a gunstore back in the summer, it ran through my bushy as good as the Winchester whitebox 55 FMJ stuff from wally-mart does. I don't have a chrono so I can't comment on that, but it shot straight at 50 yards. I liked it a lot.

Headstamp pic, marked WCC 02

After that I got 1,000 rounds delivered to my front door for $165. Plus the ammo comes in two 7.62 ammo cans in pretty good shape, something that will cost you $10 or more at most surplus places.

.223/5.56 55 FMJ
(500 Rounds)
Price: $80.00

This is a can I assaulted from 50 yards

Nice looking, i.e. consistent crimps.

Thanks for the pics/info txgp17.

I am checking to see if they will ship up here.

Certainly looks like a good candidate for plinking ammo. Thanks for the review and pics! I'll probably get some .223 to try and pick up some 9mm as well. Looks like a hell of a deal for .357 SIG owners. By the case it comes out to $8/box of 50!

From Mike at Lancer Ammunition

"The regular 223 55 FMJ is running 3185 fps and the 55 soft point is running 3168."

I sent a reply to see what kind of bullets these are loaded with and what kind of brass.
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 6:41:09 PM EDT
Lancer is good ammo. I have shot it for about a year. I use to only be able to buy it in 45 and 9 but thy started to sell it in 223 about 6-8 months ago at the local shop. Lucky for me they make it about 30 min from the house. The amo is great, good prices and it always goes bang. I have a nice stock pile in the closet now and will definetly buy alot more!!!

I'm wondering if anyone might know if these guys would be willing to ship rifle ammo to my 19 year old self? Every internet vendor I've looked into has a 21+ requirement on all ammo, rifle or pistol. I only want to buy rifle ammo which I am eligible to purchase.

Up until now, I've been purchasing my 5.56 ammo FTF from Ammoman in southern Jersey. He's been out of XM193 for hella long time and shipments comes in very sporadic spurts making it hard to buy it when I'm home from college on vacations.

The primers look to be sealed, how about the necks? Are the .30cal ammo cans water/air-tight?

CK1,
Federal laws only requires you to be 18 to purchase rifle ammo IIRC. Just click the right boxes and make the online payment. If they don't ask, you don't have to tell.

Yes, the primers were sealed, and the ammo cans (3 so far for me) were better than average in my opinion. They would sell themselves sitting on the shelves of any store with a $10 price.

Reply from Mike at Lancer Ammo about ammo components.

The bullets are Hornady Full metal Jacketed with a cantalore. The brass if we use new is Winchester Mil Spec primed and sealed. If I do it in once fired, most of it is military and some may be commerical.

Mike

They don't sell to under 21 folk. Even rifle ammo. :( Now that there is reasonable speculation that it is M193 spec, I guess my parents will be buying a lot of ammo soon to restock my dwindling supply of XM193.

I'm looking forward to my 21 day more for the ammo-over-internet than alcohol. That's mighty, mighty sad.

ETA: What is a cantalore? Do they mean canalure?

Yep canalure. So these should fragment like XM193 and likely at the same distances.

Link Posted: 1/6/2006 6:44:04 AM EDT
Well I ordered some over 2 weeks ago and they finally shipped it out today. While it won't make a huge difference in the long run because I'm still waiting on parts for my AR, it would have been nice if they would have at least told me it was going to be delayed or something. Maybe a lot of people ordered some for Christmas and they got behind.
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 7:08:04 AM EDT
I ordered mine on the 15th of December, still havn't gotten it. I emailed them, first it was a broken powder measure, then it was a backorder on brass, I emailed them a couple days ago and didn't get a response yet. Plus they charged my credit card the day after I ordered, most places will charge it when they ship my order. Needless to say not to happy with Lancer.

I just got my order of 250 rds. today. It only took about 21 days for me to get it, not counting today or the day I ordered. I will shoot sometime this weekend and let you know how it does. If it shoots good I will place another order for 1000.

**ETA**
I shot this ammo today and it performed very well. I did a 7-mag test, I had 7 30-round mags all fully loaded (210 rds. total) and shot them one after the other. The only malfunction was on the second mag it didn't feed but Im pretty sure that was my rifle's fault, (the stock was loose). Good ammo though, i'll order 1000 within the next week or two.

BTW, I was sarcastic when I said it only took 21 days. Thats a long time. But Im willing to try them again, its worth the wait IMO, also it shouldn't take so long but they kept running into problems, no brass, broken powder measue. I'll see if I can Chrono some next weekend, it depends on the weather, it did seem a little on the hotter side though.

CANTALORE? Must be a strange cross between a Cantaloupe and a Cannelure... or maybe my eyes are going bad...

Only 21 days?? hinking.gif I dont have those kind of paitents. Georgia Arms was about the same price and took 5 days (including weekend) to my door. Shot perfectly, however I did find 4 cracked necks. Just food for thought.
Link Posted: 1/8/2006 11:40:18 AM EDT
They also have it loaded with a {Hornady) 68 gr HPBT for $235/1000.

I might have to order a small box to try, and if it works good, I might stop reloading short line loads and do only my 600 yard ammo.

Well, Jim's Gun Thievery in Fayetteville NC sells Lancer for $99.99 for 500 rounds (before taxes), making it $199.98 per 1000 (213.98 out the door).

Guns Plus in Springlake NC didn't have any, but since they sell H&K M16 HR magazines for $69.99, I'd be curious as to their price for this.

$155 per 1000 on the web site. 23% mark up.

Pics on page one, but I neglected to say how many round were in the can I bought. $55 for 250. My next purchase was directly from Lancer.

I placed my order just before Christmas and it will be to my place the beginning of next week. I ended up cancealing my order a week after Christmas because it hadn't shipped. Mike at Lancer emailed me back to explain what was going on. His personal involvement was refreshing. I emailed him back to reinstate the order. He did so and shipped the ammo out. The most interesting part is that he shipped it out w/o my credit card info. When it shipped, he included a note asking me to call w/ my credit card info, as the info was deleted when I cancealed my orig. order. --Talk about customer service! There are not too many company's that would be willing to do that!

My hats off to this company and its employees. Thanks for the good service and I look forward to testing this ammo...

From Mike at Lancerammo:
Due to the promo on Sig Forum and others, we are backlogged on 357 sig and 223. Your order will go out Monday or Tuesday the 16 or 17th. We will forward the UPS tracking number to you once completed. Thanks for your business and patience.

Mine should be here late next week or early the week after. I can see how they could get so backlogged when they ran promos and the pricing they have. Will post back when I get mine and then when I get a chance to sling some down range.

Lancer's supply has been exceeded by the demand for their product.
I would expect to see a slight price increase in the future.

No action on this order as of 1/15 - just the original acknowledgement of the order back on the 6th. I just e-mailed asking for status.

Guys shooting Lancer at the Viking Tactics tactical carbine course this weekend had issues with it.

To be fair, the Wolf 62 grain I was shooting had FTFs higher than I'd experienced in the past. I will contact Wolf about it.

The price difference / performance was enough to make me consider Wolf a better choice.

First, there were comments made that in the previous class there had been issues with the ammunition. I have no first hand knowledge of that. That was made as part of a general discussion on ammunition. I would have prefered to use M855, but we couldn't as it would have perforated the steel targets (that's why I went with Wolf 62 grain - that and price as 1.5K per person for 5 folks is spendy).

One firer was using Lancer on Saturday. He had issues with it feeding and firing. I was more concerned with my own shooting (hint: do not mess with your sights!), paying attention and intermittent magazine issues (new magazines in 4 carbines of 3 different makes). The firer using Lance used another brand on Sunday.

The previous is my own observations, your mileage and reality may vary. I've had no issues with NATEC's polymer-cased ammo - but others have; my 'tweaked to my gun' Thermolds run better than spendy GI-contract maker magzines with high-speed followers - but others have issues with Thermolds; as long as I pull maintenance on my carbines (both the SBRs and the M4geries) the only issue I have with Wolf is hard primers (in this lot) - others have nothing but issues.

I carried an M16A1 and M16A2 for 20 years, Infantry and SF, and never had one quarter of the burning crisis issues people argue about on here. I've had Gucci gear go tits up out of the box and had cheap crap last so long it wasn't funny.

IF YOU USE LANCER AND IT WORKS FOR YOU IN YOUR GUN, THEN ITS ALL GOOD. I'd try it first, then decide.

I ordered 250 of the 68gr. BTHP and 250 of the 55gr. SP. The 68s feed and eject just fine and are very accurate in my Rock River. The 55s however will not feed. They stick in the throat of my weapon and will not eject manually. I measured them and they average 2.204 overall. I will not shoot them and have contacted Lancer about the problem. Mike at Lancer is sending me a return slip for shipping and I will send them back for them to examine. So far the customer service seems to be good. We shall see. I will post my results with thier customer service to this board.

Quite a while. Almost 3 three weeks. Fortunately I'm still waiting on my lower to come in so it didn't matter much. On visual inspection, it looks like good ammo. I hope to have a range report in the next couple of weeks.
