I am surprised those metal racks hold that much weight without bowing.  Nice set up.

Rated for 600 lbs per shelf, 3,600 total

................I have a completely dry finished basement so I put 10 of the cans on a pallet in the basement but I don't like the idea of having a pipe burst etc. with my ammo so close to the basement floor.  I might build the pallet up on cinder blocks to add some height.
I don't mean to hijack your thread but what do you guys think of the basement idea?  Its a dry heated basement.

About 6 months ago someone here mentioned their basement flooded. Ammo was on the floor or just off it but got wet. You should be ok in ammo cans (I use em too with a similar system to yours) but if it isn't a PITA to raise them it would at least give you some peace of mind.

ETA: except I don't have a basement. In the spring I clean out my wood burning insert and stack a dozen ammo cans in there. In the winter they go out into the enclosed garage. The rest go under beds, in closets, in corners. I'd give my left nut for some of the setups here.

I'm still working on mine. I can't get too overblown. Everything "gun related" must fit in a standard bedroom closet. I need to get some ammo cans, but I just started my ammo collection a few months ago.

Oh, and FYI, we don't have basements in Oregon, AND I have to watch the floor loading. Approx. 200 pounds per square foot (human). These shelves probably have about 300-400 pounds on them total.

But, at least it's organized. And best yet...I have ammo for guns I don't own! Should last me about six months to a year for most of this stuff.

Although surprisingly, there's no .45ACP, .30-06, or 9mm.

Well, I just finished reorganizing. There's about 200 rounds missing, and the safe isn't in there yet.

The closet (ammo section)

Level 1 = .22LR + Blow-off
Level 2 = Shotgun + Pistol
Level 3 = .223/5.56
Level 4 = .308/7.62x39/Misc Large rifle (Collector stuff)

Contains approx.:

1000 rounds XM855PD
500 rounds .22LR CCI MiniMags
500 rounds .22LR CCI Standards
525 rounds .22LR Federal
525 rounds .22LR Winchester
500 rounds .22LR SW Wolf
140 rounds 12G 8-shot
250 rounds 12G 1oz. slugs
180 rounds 12G 00 Buck
A box or three of some misc. 12G
500 rounds .40S&W JHP reloads
100 rounds .40S&W SXT
600 rounds .40S&W FMJ reloads
20 rounds .40S&W Black Talon
2000 rounds 75gr Match .223 Black Hills
1100 rounds 55gr .FMJ 223 Black Hills
510 rounds 55gr 5.56mm IMI M193
~400 rounds 52gr Match .223 Black Hills
500 rounds .308 PMP
~400 rounds .308 reloads
60 rounds .308 SA Battlepack
240 rounds 7.5mm Swiss
~90 rounds 7.62x54R Wolf
300 rounds 7.62x39 HP Wolf Copper Jacket
~200 rounds 7.62x39 FMJ/HP Wolf Bi-Metal
880 rounds 7.62x39 Cheetah Brass Cased

I still need to figure out where to put the 8mm Mauser stuff.

Holy crap. Grand total > 12K rounds.

Maybe I need an intervention...

Nah, it never goes bad, [you'll be dead first with modern ammo] never gets cheaper, shipping never goes down, supplies are never constant, and if you get divorced, how many women want half of an ammo stash?

Nice shelves. I own a few of the exact same model. Local Club store here in WA named Costco sells them for around $65 per 7-8' stack.

My gf uses them in the spare bedroom for her junk. Since I wear the pants in this family .... my ammo is all stored upstairs in my office / den where I see it every day
