I read something interesting on the M14 Forum, one guy ordered 2K rds and received all his in cardboard boxes. They must be doing this now to large orders because so many guys are placing orders of 10,20 or more cans and their taking a bath on shipping after you use the discount coupons.

Im ordering a few cans today,  with my free shipping  since I need to renew my membership.  As for the guys not getting cans, I  called and they said that if that happens just call and thier send the cans seperate.

Now have to go out and get the sa58 I've been looking at.

Went to the range to shoot the FN ammo this weekend out of my M1A loaded. The headstamp is 77, all shoots great. Accuracy is fine, not as good as Port FNM ammo IMO. I will need to verify that with my Rem 700 VS next range session (bolt sent out for modification right now).

My order wasn't scheduled for delivery till tomorrow in 3 boxes but I got part of it today.

I ordered 1000 rounds of Wolf 223 and 4 of the 250 round cans of 308.

what I got today was 2 boxes. One with the 1k of wolf 223, and one box containing 500 rounds of the 308. I'm guessing that the missing box contains the other 500 rounds of 308.

Funny, I don't know why UPS didn't drop off all 3 boxes, they got them all at the same time, and the tracking shows they arrived in PHX at the same time. I'm guessing the UPS guy just didn't notice a 3rd box for me and I'll get it later today or tomorrow.

Still, I doubt the other box contains 500 rounds of ammo and 4 ammo cans, shipping weight is the same for the box I have and the missing box. So I called SG and they told me I needed to wait till the third box arrives to verify the ammo cans aren't in there.

Interesting, we ordered exactly the same stuff 1K Wolf and 1K FN .308, I will wait to see if I receive the .308 FN ammo in ammo can or not.

The first two can of ammo (500rds) that I ordered was ship in ammo can and the can is wire/lead sealed. Wondering why would SG go through the trouble to remove the ammo from ammo can in the first place.

I received two more cans today, Lot 4,1980.Two guys posted tonight on FAl Files they received their orders in boxes. It seems that they are starting to ship orders of 4 or more in boxes most likey saving shipping costs. I have made several orders no more than 2 cans at a time and using a $10 off coupon paying about $3 shipping. The last 2 orders the ammo and cans have looked like new.

I got my six boxes today.  No cans, just cardboard.  These are 1977 and in much rougher shape than my first six cans.  Sure wish they would have just left them in the cans!

Should add that I opened the other five boxes and found two more 77 and three 80s.

Just order some for the wife for xmas, she'll love ya!

I called about my missing ammo cans last night.  They were sorry they were not included and did not have a reason why.  They said they would send them aout asap.  Today, I get an e-mail stating that the cans are not available and will be on backorder for about two weeks.  Yeah...right!

And they will be junk when you get them instead of the nice ones everyone else is getting.

ETA: I just called and they told me a parts request was put in for the missing ammo cans. They girl I talked to didn't seem to have any idea what I was talking about so I suspect I will either get some funky style ammo cans, or maybe 4 full cans of ammo. Who knows.

My guess is they take a lot of ammo out of the can, so they can sell at loose quantity, but did not know the demand of ammo with can is much greater, so they are tapping into those loose ammo to fulfill the order.

That may be true, but I imagine all the ammo must have originated in cans.  So there must be plenty of empty cans available.  As far as getting junk can, or cans full of ammo, who knows!

wow, that is the first i have heard of any comeing on striper clips. i got one can of the 80 and it was just like all three other years, ten rounds to a plastic bag. UPS is bringing three more cans tonight. i will have to see if i get any like that.

Got in 2 cans, 2 "77" and 2 "80" the 77's were actuaaly in better shape than the 80's.  80's had some green tarnish not found on the 77's.  all in sealed cans in 10 round plastic wrap

got my last three cans two 77 and one 73 no striper clips. i did get the can of belted Port i bought. this is the first time i have ever bought ammo on links and i just got to say belted ammo is about the coolest thing i have ever bought. i am not sure why but their is just something cool about 200 rounds on a belt. i now feel the need for a new gun. this could get very expensive.

I got 4 cans yesterday of the 79 lot.  All of the cans were sealed with wire seal. Check all the cans.  I couldn't believe this ammo was made in 1979!  Very shinny and the primers look good.  Looks better than some LC 04 XM80 I got a couple of months ago.  If it shoot nearly as good as it looks I'll be more than happy.

Got 4 cans--3 1977 and one 1980. All wire-sealed--one on strippers, the rest in vinyl bags. The head stamps are FN and FNB--does anyone know if these are both FN?

Just want to be sure I got what I paid for....

Thanks!

That is the same exact ammo I got with the same delivery date and it came a day early too.  Every can was sealed and perfect.  Even the ammo cans looked new.  They seemed to have a little grease or something on the outside of them to keep them looking new or something.

FN -Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN), Herstal, Belgium
FNB -Fabrique Nationale Herstal, Herstal, Belgium

Yes both headstamps, "FN" and "FNB" are Fabrique Nationale, Beligium made ammo.  I don't know why some would be on strippers, Ive only ordered 2 cans, so far, and both came in .30 cal. ammo cans sealed in 10 rd. plastic bags.

Everything I am ordering that gets shipped UPS is getting to me one day sooner than ETA.  I think its because UPS is getting ready for the Christmas rush.

Nic

Oh yeah, I got the headstamp info HERE

Nic4433--Thanks for the info and web site--just added to "favorites" for next time! Much obliged!

I dunno why it's on strippers--it's the ammo marked FNB and from 1980. Just ordered some strippers/bandoleers from CheaperThanDirt. These things are expensive compared to 5.56 stuff!
Also ran a magnet over a few packs--all non-magnetic. I had read on another board ( don't remember the site--surfed from one to another) some FN ammo has a steel insert (as in AP)--but you know the internet....Not that checking 1% of this ammo means it's not true--I just didn't find any in my quick search.

Just got mine tonight, 2 boxes of lot 12 77 and 2 boxes of lot 11 80. The two 80 boxes said "clips" on the outside of the box. I opened them, and sure enough, they had 2 5 round strippers per bag. No spoon/feeder (anyone else call it a "spoon"?) though.

It is NOT the Indian crap. please do some research before spitting uneducated comments. Indian ammo carries OFV head stamp, while this ammo carries FN head stamp. Most of the Indian ammo came in .50 cal ammo can instead of .30 cal ammo can. This ammo is made in Belgium by FN.

Look at the link he posted (cross-posted). It points to the Indian surplus ...

I did not try this too, but I'm planning into buying. Even if more expensive, it seems better, at least if really bad reviews won't show up.
