Just bought an Oly PCR5 , and was wondering what rounds to shoot the barrel says 556 but curious if .223 will work just as well .

With 5.56 chambers, you can shoot both .223 and 5.56, but not the other way around.  Get some USGI mags and some XM193, you should be good to go.
