I went by the local store today and checked out what they had and they had the Winchester USA Whitebox 55gr, FMJ 223 in 20 or 50 rd boxes.  No where did I see anything that said Q3131A.  Does it say on the box if it is?
If I'm right and this isn't the same stuff, is it any good?

Thanks!

Q3131A will be on the box.

It will not say .223 but it will say 5.56.

In the small print it will say made in Israel and to be used on Palestinians only. [8D]

It's on the side flap. There's definitely non-Q3131A white box Winnie ammo out there, so be careful.

My Jewish friend said the Q3131a's were kosher [:D].

So is the non-Q3131A stuff any good?

I don't think anyone has had problems with that ammo, but the reason people look for Q3131A in particular is that it is a M193 spec round, which is desireable for self-defense purposes. Read about it in the AR15.com ammo FAQ.

If you're just plinking with it, get the cheapest ammo which runs reliably in your rifle.

Just do as Rambosky pointed out. Winchester only makes 2 boxes marked 5.56mm.

DON'T BUY their white boxed ammo marked .223.

Edited: Of the above Q3131A is M193 in civilian clothes. [;)]

whats wrong with using 223 marked USA223R1 boxed ammo?

Read what Troy Wrote.
Why pay same or higher price for weaker ammo?

1ar4me,
Spooge and Troy are merely saying that the .223 Winchester round is 200 fps slower and thus not a military round.  It may not be sealed either. (Mil spec would be identified as 5.56mm.)  I have fired the white box .223 Winchester through my Bushy quite successfully, but if you read the ammo faq (long but a wealth of info) you'll realize that the .223 winny rounds would not fragment on impact except maybe at point blank range.  (Fragmentation is desirable, since much more tissue damage in the victim will occur.)  I will range fire my
winchester ammo, and keep looking for mil spec. ammo to store for those truly once in a lifetime occasions (-:
At under 200 yards there shouldn't be that much difference in point of impact, but there definitely will be some, and next time I am out there I want to see EXACTLY how many "clicks" different my Wolf is from my Winchester from my Lake City and Federal, the latter two I "save."

Nothing at all. Shoots fine for the range.
It's just not M193 milspec, not a big deal for plinking.

Used Winchester white box for awhile (wal-mart is on the way to the range), until I could swing another 1k of LC M193 from ammoman. Had to re-zero irons and scope. Even at 100 yards, the Winchester shot about 4 inches lower than the LC out of my 14.5 inch Bushy. Seemed to group a tad bigger, too. Maybe instead of one flyer out of 10 it was more like 1 out of 5...

Different ammo, different specs, means re-zero.

Realise that, soulzero. Just pointing out the difference in accuracy and velocity between the two rounds in question. I also fail to see the point people have with "plinking" ammo... For me, using less than ideal ammo is like feeding an exotic sports car regular unleaded. Sure it will run, but not to it's full potential... I guess if I was shooting off my back porch at propane tanks, ammo wouldn't matter much...
Problem is I live in town, and the cops would probably fire back...

Well, it's called saving some money! [:D]

Plinking 200-500 or more rounds at the range with expensive ammo is a waste!!
Thus, cheaper, less uber-tactical 50 million mile sub MOA ammo is more practical.

Do what you want - your money, enjoy! [:D]

Round for round, Q3131A is the about the same price as the White Box Value Pack. It's just a matter of finding Q3131A [:)]

Hehe, Soulzero, I'm actually considering getting into reloading. I know I wont save any money over buying LC from ammoman, but at least I'll be feeding my Bushy only bright, shiny, cornhusk polished cartridges.

Ya, I know... I'm a moron...[:D]

I've thought about reloading as well.
I like M855, but it's pricy and not always around here. So, it would be practicle to make it myself.
I just don't have anywhere to keep reloading stuff....but my friend has a Dillon machine....[:D]
