i bought some IMI 55 gr ammo a few years ago and i was woundering if anyone was run this stuf through a chrono. this ammo is in the 30 rounds craft colored small boxes with the Isreali logo on it. thanks in advance.

Last I heard. All of the IMI 55gr was considered outdated. Probably totally unreliable by now.

You are welcome to send all of your IMI to me for safe disposal...

i could not endanger another ar fan in that way, i had best keep it. i know a guy that will let me use his chrono, guess i'll have to take another trip to the range. :)

I am going out this weekend to chrono some IMI 55 and 62 grain.  All the loads will be shot out of 11.5 inch barrel and 20 inch barrel.

Temperature was approx. 79 degrees F. Elevation was approx. 750 feet above sea level. Test rifles were a Bushmaster 20” chrome lined HBAR and a Colt 16” chrome lined HBAR.   Readings were taken at 15 feet from the muzzle.

Winchester Q3131A, 1999 – 3186 fps / 3062 fps
Federal Xm193, Lot 1 – 3299 fps / 3121 fps
South Africa surplus, M1A3, 1986 – 3235 fps / 3106 fps
IMI M193, 1999 – 3203 fps / 3060 fps

Eric,

Is that an average of a certain number of rounds fired?  

If so, please post Max, Min, standard deviation, and number of samples.

(If that is not too much to ask  )

I have heard that IMI ammunition is approved for emergency/local purchase by US forces because it is loaded to US MILSPEC, and that it is the next best thing to having Lake City. I would expect that its performance would be fine (the Israelis don't seem to have any problems with it).

M16A1 Rifle.

Meets milspec:  

TZZ-00

3221 at 15 feet.  SD of 27.

30 round sample.  1000' ASL.  65°F.  90% RH


TZZ-99

3188 at 15 feet.  SD of 21.

30 round sample on same day as above.
