I built my 8.5" last night and shot it:

I put 150 rounds of cheap German surplus through it without a single issue. I'm still waiting on my stamp to come back so I had to scavenge that brace off my .300BO. Now I need to decide on optics, but so far I love this thing! Thanks FM-Products!

One question: I'm using the FM 45 heavy buffer and a 5.56 spring I had laying around. I also have the AR-10 spring out of my DD5V1 after I replaced that with a JP Silent Capture Spring. Should I use the heavier spring with that buffer? The recoil doesn't seem bad, but could I reduce it even more with that spring or would I start seeing misfeeds?

I'm using your buffer: https://www.primaryarms.com/fm-products-.45-caliber-ar-15-heavy-buffer-8oz

That should be fine right? (it works great so far!) I'm just thinking of a bit heavier spring to go with it. I think I recall someone (maybe in this thread) that used a .308 AR spring with their PCC build and got good results.

Also, what charging handles do you offer? The one I have interferes with the BUIS but my understanding is I can buy a different one. Can I buy the one that folds forward or would that one also interfere with BUIS on the rail?

The folding “paratrooper” handle looks like it will interfere with BUIS on the rail. Check my photos on the previous page, I took a pic of all three handles I received with my upper. The two skinny ones should work with rail mounted sights.

We have been getting frequent small orders, the problem is they sell out quickly, and they take a while to get back in stock, then sell out right away.  I feel your pain.

FM keeps getting asked about t shirts, Ill get some ordered and do a post here when they come in.

I took apart the proprietary handguard to see how it all works in there.

The charging handle carrier rides on two rails inside the top portion of the handguard. The back of the carrier has a rod that goes through what would have been the gas tube hole.

My upper is a 8.5” and as such the charging handle gets pretty darn close to the muzzle. Unlike the pivoted “paratrooper” style handle they have on the longer models mine is a simple plastic piece that snaps into place. The handle and carrier are both plastic in mine, which I was not expecting and don’t really know how to feel. I’d prefer aluminum, but at the same time the plastic won’t slowly eat away at the rails in the handguard or the top of the BCG either. It feels pretty solid however and after messing with it I don't see it breaking or anything.

They also included two slimmer handles for use with buis.

Overall it a very nice package and I’m happy, I just wish the description on Primary Arms page was more descriptive regarding materials used. It eats my steel case and works with my Stern mag block. I really dig those paratrooper handles they offer, I’m going to see if they’ll let me buy one as well to use on this puppy.

How and where does it interaction with the upper?

Man, I am digging that handgaurd. Since mine started off as a 10.5, the handguard covers the whole thing now that I went to the short, lighter barrel. I would love to buy a shorter handgaurd like yours but they don't seem to be available to purchase.

Thanks for the pics!  We can sell you a 8.5" handguard but I really like the look of your upper.  You will also need a 8.5" charging handle system too.  [email protected]

FM-Products (Foxtrot Mike Products) takes their customers seriously. The attention to their customers is in a league of its own. The company responds to inquiries in light speed, just amazing. Such a great commitment to customer service deserves to be commended publicly. FM Products (Foxtrot Mike Products) is on a completely different level than most of the gun industry because of the focus on the quality of its products (I own two), and the personal energy and commitment of their corporate leadership. Well done Paul!

Took my new build out the range and put 90 rounds through it. Shoots really nice and soft. I'm going to just keep it as-is for now and shoot it a bit before I decide what to do with the buffer. I think 20.5 oz reciprocating mass is just a little on the lighter side but it feels good shooting it back-to-back with my 16" mid-length AR (standard buffer).

FM Glock bolt (14 oz)
FM buffer (6.5 oz)
FM trigger
Wolff XP buffer spring (with 3 quarters stacked in the back of the buffer tube)
Wolff XP hammer spring
Magpul PMAG Gen 3 (with Mean Arms EndoMag)

Aero Precision upper
Aero Precision ambidextrous lower (PDQ bolt catch)
B5 Bravo stock
Badger Ordnance C1 ambidextrous short throw safety
BCM KMR Alpha 10
BCM KM rail panels
BCM KM vertical grip
BCM Mod 3 pistol grip
BCM Mod 4B charging handle
BCM trigger guard
CMMG 9mm deflector/dust cover
Sig M400 ambidextrous mag release
Sig Romeo 4b red dot
Warsport 16" 9mm barrel (with A1 flash hider)

Weight is 6 lbs 9 oz without mag.

Loving my black friday upper deal. Put it on a PSA and have had zero problems over 300 rounds with Glock mags.
More/bigger mags already shipped.  I too, only got 1 charging handle, not a problem so far.

Little bit of tinkering and experimenting, but I think I finally am DONE! (minus the sightmark, still waiting on PSA shipping)

Started with the FM 6.4oz extended 9mm buffer, ended up with the new heavier 8oz buffer with the reciprocating tungsten weights. I was having quasi burst fires going off before when rapid firing with the 6.4oz buffer, no longer with the 8oz, so I think that was a result of "bolt bounce" and the moving weights cured that. I felt less punch with the new buffer as well, even with a can on, so it's definitely doing something.

I was concerned by the diameter of the FM handguards and the depth of the barrel threads interfering with my silencer. The handguards are of the slim variety, and I was afraid that my suppressor would bind with them. It gets pretty damn close, but using a Rugged Obsidian 3 lug adapter with my Octane 9 works perfectly.

I think this is the first time one of my frankenbuilds went together so well. The Stern Glock magwell, FM's upper, the Griffin Armament/Rugged Suppressors/SilencerCo combo; all of it clicked together without issue. That's a rarity for me, so I'm blessing my lucky stars. I also have a guardian angel, and his name is Paul at FM Products!

Took my 16'' out this weekend for a shake down run. Its on a Recoil Gun Works Glock lower (rebranded NFA). Only ran 30 rounds through it but it ran perfect. Should be a great steel gun this spring.

Know the distance from the front of the hand guard to the charging handle set screw? Trying to make sure the hex key I have will be long enough. At work or I would measure myself.

I am using a 9 inch Eklind # 51906 T-Handle Hex Key in 3/32in  which works perfect.

Ran a few more mags though it this week. Ate blazer brass and tula steel case like a champ. PA rds broke during site in but the upper ran great. Probably my fav ar build I own.
Did have the charging handle set screw back out, hints the post above. Caught it during cleaning.

Has anyone installed mbus sights on their uppers?  I bought their 7" pistol from PA and the front site prevents the charging handle from going completely forward.

Edit:  looks like ill have to remove the charging handle and install the front site in the middle of the barrel for proper clearance.

I sent an email about charging handles that will clear an mbus front site but i never got a response.  Im pretty sure my pistol comes with the thin handle so unless the para handle is noticeably thinner, I'll just have to keep the front site behind the handle.

Just ran 100 rounds of cheap 9mm lead tip  reloads through my FM 7" with 3 different mags and no issues. LRBHO is awesome and worked every time. I am very impressed with this pistol and the price was super for what all you get. Thanks Paul,  for my new HD weapon. Got my additional cocking handles as well. Guys, if you were on the fence on a new 9mm AR, you can't go wrong with this. And a lifetime warranty, oh hell yeah. Now for a 16" 9mm carbine. Merry Xmas to me.............lol
