i am in the process of building a lightweight dedicated 22. i have a spikes stripped m4 flat top upper, with a cavity for a forward assist assembly. should i have a standard forward assist assembly [non functional, with my spikes bolt], or plug it with a derlin flush fit plug?

here are my 2 choices:

DPMS Forward Assist Assembly

or

derlin plug

the price difference is marginal, as is any weight savings, i imagine.

so, which do you think i should choose?

thanks for your time.

You should use a 9MM upper.
No gas tube hole, no forward assist.

CMMG has a bolt adapter that makes the forward assist functional on their conversion kits.

For the cost difference I'd put the forward assist on.

If you really want to keep the weight down just leave the hole there.

I've plugged several of the forward assists. CMMG has pinned their forward assist to the bolt.
I'm not sure if there will be one to work with Spike's Bolt at this time. You can always install
a forward assist if it should come available for your bolt. Otherwise it serves no purpose.

do they come with a forward assist roll pin? i cant tell from the pic, and i would hate to be stuck ordering a 75 cent part, and paying shipping on it.

do you have any pics hosted, of one of your rifles with the forward assist plugged off, so i can see what it looks like installed?

Pin seperate as far as I remember. I took Forward Assists out.

This one appears to be well used.
