I have an unhealthy and unnatural love for .22 WMR.  Does that use regular Black Dog mags or special ones?

Sorry I should have clarified. I like the 15-22 but I would prefer not to have so many plastic parts, and wanted to share the Black Dog mags that I already had for my SIG 522. I know people with 15-22s and they are happy with them, it's just not what I wanted to do.

The 15-22 sound better suppressed over a metal AR lower and upper 22 AR.

That is cool! love the build. I have been toying with the idea of building a retro 22. Have considered doing another SBR similar to your build but may just do a 20"

@jeremywills it’ll be a while. She’s taken a couple of shots with unsuppressed 5.56 trying to hit some tannerite. It’s not the recoil or sound that bothers her much but just the actual size and weight that’s far too cumbersome. I’ve got a left-handed 5.56 bcg but I need to source another left-handed upper. Then she’ll probably build a lightweight 300bo but there’s no reason to rush it because she is having a blast with her ‘Pinky Pie’.

.22 AR uppers are just so much fun to go plinking with.

Had a spare upper and PSA handguard in my box of parts.  While I wasn't looking, it turned itself into a CMMG 4.5" dedicated upper.  Griffin checkmate QD (mini 3-lug) suppressor tucks way up under the handguard, but still comes off easily.  Better mag adapter, M&P mags.

Now that I finally feel my .22LR gun is completed, here it is. Its been a few years putting together and tweaking to get it here:

Basic specs:
Spikes Tactical ST-22 barreled upper with cut down 5" barrel
Gemtech G5-22 suppressor
Spikes SAR 7" rail - I had a hard time finding a rail that would allow the G5-22 can to fit underneath.
Holosun HS503GU with lower 1/3 Holosun mount. I have an absolute mount I'm going to try soon.
RRA bolt carrier group
Spikes bolt carrier
Magpul BUIS
KAC vertical grip
Daniel Defense rail covers - I like these because the rail is so wide. I had the KAC panels on, but took them off in favor of these
Inforce WML
Spikes ST-15 lower receiver
Magpul buttstock

Just very recently got into the idea of an AR platform .22lr, so I picked up a CMMG conversion and 3 mags.

I kind of jumped on the idea without doing any research.

Due to some wonky California laws, I chose this build as my .22lr donor.

Had a little trouble shooting my first time out, which was mostly due to overpowered hammer spring.

After a little research, I decided I should go the dedicated upper route.

RTB had a nice little sale for July 4th.

I grabbed the RTB m4 barrel, RTB collar for my cmmg conversion kit and RTB Upper.

ACME Machine had a nice sale on their handguards, so I snagged a gen1 lightweight 15" mlok.

Got a Bore Buddy pressure plug and a pre prototype charging handle insert.

I already had an Anderson lower, a LPK and everything else needed to complete the build in my parts box.

For now it will wear the fixed sights. I do have optic options, but like to test new builds with irons first.

My mailman delivered late lastnight, around 7:30pm.
Started the build right away and had it done by 9pm.
It took me a while to find my upper vice blocks.
Initially, the idea slipped by me and I was planning on building with my bev block. DOH!

Anyways, here is a crappy picture I hastily took when it was complete.

The lower picatinny section is for accuracy testing with my bipod, but that will come off.
On my way to the range in 45 minutes to test her out.
Will report back.

Took out my new .22 build posted above.

Tried CCI Standard, Aguilla Super Extra Standard as well as the High Velocity and some CCI Mini Mags in the swamp people flavor.

I was very happy to see my windage adjustment was pretty much at mechanical zero after sighting in.

Here is the target from 25 yds. Top groups were 20 rounds.

The top row of orange targets  as well as the center was me sighting in and goofing off.

Function was perfect and ran flawlessly for about 250 or so rounds. Very happy.

I can see that RTB barrel will be a tack driver. Will try it with an optic soon, as I am not a great irons shooter.

Put this together last night. Shot it today. Ran great! Can't believe I've waited this long to build a .22 . . .

Anderson upper/lower, Brownell's Retro A1 stock, Yankee Hill forearm, RTB 16" pencil weight .22 barrel, CMMG bolt, Primary Arms scope mount, Weaver 2.5x20.

This probably counts, right?  Just a work in progress at the moment

I've been pretty gunned out lately due to work and other stuff, but I got the bug to build this a couple weeks ago and started ordering parts.  I need a different pistol scope with long eye relief and no bell on the objective end and I think I'm going to order a polymer lower since this puppy is far heavier than I want in a Heavy Blaster...  It will have an adapter so I can use M&P 15-22 20 round magazines as those are the closest to the "original" feel.

If anyone has a better pistol scope recommendation, I'll take it.  If not I'll keep looking.

Ordered a new "Flash Hider" last night.  The one I have on there is metal, but it's made for Airsoft Mausers so it requires some fuckery to get it working.  That little bit of green at the back edge is actually a birdcage flash hider I put on so I could thread one of the set screw parts through the slots and use the bottom screw to anchor it.

New flash hider is 3D printed, but comes undrilled so I should be able to thread it for the correct pitch.  Hopefully.  I imagine PLA will stand up to the occasional .22LR round.
