Somebody clear this up for me, were there other A2 models that had Auto instead of Burst?  I thought that made it an A3?

I think I figured this out.  US military A2's were burst, except for maybe some SF rifles, but export and commercial LEO orders could have been full auto.

I remember back in 87' we had new M16A2 when we went to train with the Jordanian SF.  They also had new M16A2s but with full auto instead of burst like we had

The M16A3 had full auto. It was adopted by the US Navy for Seabees and NSW (although I think SEALs hardly used any).

I carried a Hydra-Matic converted to A2 in the early 90s.  It had a black spray painted looking lower with a "2" overstamping the 1, and the "auto" was ground off and "burst" crookedly stamped. The A2 upper was purple.  It looked pathetic, but ran great!

Here is my version so far.  I'm still on the fence with the spray paint, overstamping and grinding.

I did it and made it pretty close to what I remember, crooked and sloppy!   Still no spraypaint, just the paint pen to touch it up. I remember our armourer using alumihide for those tacky touchups.  Time for an M60 sling and some paracord!

You had more guts than me - but it looks cool as heck.

You know, you won't believe it: I like them guns more when they have that personality (scratches, ... ).

Not necessarily beaten to hell (used to have a full auto A1 converted to semi, used by the Philippine army, it was really in poor condition - that was too much) but showing a bit of time and action having passed by.

Very cool.

Very cool.  Not to be overly anal.....  But this thread was meant to be a vintage A2 Real Deal or close clone thread.  Not the newfangled stuff....  The other A2 pic thread might be best for that.  I really don't care either way.  Or maybe I do.  But hopefully I'm not coming across as a jerk.  Just making an observation.

I really like your carbine set up though.

I've been trying to put back in the pics we lost from photobucket that I may have put in.....

We deployed to Somalia in 94 to cover the withdraw post Blackhawk down and about 1/2 way thru the deployment our ship went up to Saudi because Saddam was blustering and they sent just us a Track company to calm him down
we prolly wouldnt have done much to stop him being just a company of grunts but we did cross train with the so-call Royal Saudi Marines
