Went ahead and scoped them to see any differences.  Keep in mind, I'm no expert and just reporting my observations.

M4 is vented to reflex portion of can, thick blast baffle and 8 total baffles.  The 4th baffle has holes on the exterior to vent back? and the spacing between 4 and 5 is bigger than the rest.  Then the end cap.

AEM5 has similar construction apart from different mounting systems.  The vents to the reflex portion are a bit different, but the stack looks the same.  Blast baffle, 8 baffles, holes in the 4th, bigger space between baffle 4 and 5, then end cap.

I grabbed some shitty pics with my CHYNA borescope and figured I'd share for anyone interested.

Making me jealous as I’m sure my M4 has at least 6 more months in FATF jail. What are you going to run the M4 can on? Thought all of your uppers were setup for the OCM/AEM5.

Looking forward to our assessment on optimal buffer weight. You m guessing I’ll eventually end up with an H3 for the lower used with the Gordon clone and 733 uppers.

I had a 14.5" that Ron installed a collar on for me in preparation for the can.  Turns out I have enough old junk laying around for 2 Gordon carbines.  Had the day off so I got everything together and put some paint on the can.

I hate to quote myself.

I ask this because I have a really nice 5000, and I look at these 9000 as "close enough".  I figure if Aimpoint 5000s are really that high dollar I can sell mine, grab a 9000, and pocket so dough for future builds.

I don’t think it would sell in the EE for that much.  Maybe $600 on here.  I’ve seen dudes asking that much and it sits.

$800-$900 for a mint 5000 is doable on Gb or ebay though.

Not only that. 9000 has better tech. I don’t think 5000 are getting that much though. Theres been one in the ee for a long time for way cheaper.

"$900" on GB is where one recently sold.  I dont know if someone made a lower and was accepted.

I sold a 5000 for 850ish in GB. 700-800 seems to be market price though.

Want to make a note and get y'all's thoughts on this opinion. I got my ocm5 can in a couple weeks ago and it is very front heavy on my Gordon. I have a mk18, but with the vertical grip it helps the weight. But the Gordon feels like a weightless rifle with a 10lb weight on the front.

Last point/question, because I love this thread and discussion. Would y'all use a colt m16a1 upper or cmmg C7 upper for your Gordon? I'll post an imgur link below showing the difference.

For those looking for an alternative to the Surefire barrel mounts, here's a cheaper option that's steel and well made. These work with just about any 1" light body. They use a two piece bushing to fit around a gov't profile barrel, but will also mount to shotguns without the bushing. These were originally made by Rosch Works a few years ago before they went out of business. I believe the barrel mount itself is called the TM1. I got mine off Ebay a while back and forgot I had it. You can find them on Gunbroker and Ebay for pretty cheap every now and again. I believe a lot of police departments used them for a short time, so their trade-ins pop up on occasion.

No relation to the seller, but there are a few on GB right now with the light (250 lumen and was made for Rosch Works by Malkoff Devices) for dirt cheap. I think these things were like $200+ new a few years ago, so you get a nice little carry light and a nice mount for your BHD build for cheap

+1 I really want to know if you could mount it under the FSB, looks like you can squeeze it under there.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm not sure it would work without some modification. I do think one could fabricate their own bushing, and make the hole for the bushing off center (think half moon or 3/4 moon shaped) to creat some space. Obviously it would make the light stick out a bit further, but I think it would work. I'll check myself with a shaved fsb and barrel I have laying around.

So stupid question I'm sorry. I've looked into the AE thread in the suppressor/armory section and I want to make sure my thinking is correct. If I want to suppressor to fit against the FSP then the 12.5 length barrel is the way to go correct? This would require a two stamp rifle.
If I wanted to do a one stamp I could pin and weld the AE break on a 14.5 to get 16 inches but it would leave a gap.
Something like this

Honestly the gap doesn't bother me
Thanks just trying to make sure I understand

To use the AEM/OCM5 can and Allen Inc collar you need a 12.7” barrel. The Allen M4/Gordon suppressor works with the 14.5” barrel and collar.

OCM makes a collar designed to interface properly with the more common 12.5” barrel and AEM/OCM5 suppressors.

Seems like getting the thinner OCM collar, or getting a longer barrel cut and profiled to 12.7” and the original Allen collar, are the ways to use the AEM/OCM5 cans on the shorter barrels with the can backed up to the FSP via the collar.

@Subpar has posted pics of both setups, though I don’t believe he’s ever put up pics of a 14.5” with the standard brake/collar to use the AEM5 suppressor. I know Allen sells the extended collar/brake combo thing as well.

ETA: believe it’s the M4 AEM5 collar on this page http://www.aesuppressors.com/mounts/

Got the 9000SC zeroed today. Shot my first group and went to adjust, only to notice I’d mounted it 90deg off, haha. A quick loosen/turn/tighten on the Leupold rings and we were back in business. Held about 2MOA with 55gr American Eagle FMJ.

This, and my PRO wearing 733, are starting to become my favorite daytime uppers to mess around with. Probably the realization that cutting a few pounds off compared to most of my 18” guns makes for an easier day of shooting.

Mind telling me where you got that light mount?  I’m thinking either one of those or the FSB mount, since I’ve got a 6P I’m going to use on my M4 barrel, C7 upper 723 to make a “spirit of BHD” carbine. Already have an ARMS mount and the Leupold rings, just need to grab a 9000SC.

Any evidence of flip up scope caps on the Aimpoint 9000SC-looking optics back then? I’m not a fan of the rubberband style hunting ones that came with it, but I do like having the lenses covered during transport.

So I got mine in and thought it was a split ring design, unfortunately its not. So in order to install it you would have to slide it on while installing the FSP and repin it all it once. I may try to chop it in half to see if that still works.

I am not normally into cloning AR type rifles but this era has me planning on making 3-4 guns from the particular era. I have been fortunate enough to meet up with quite a folks who were in this fight and the nature of this fight was pivotal in how the US military fought in urban combat from that point forward. Plus coming back to this forum and this thread in particular & I cannot lie the book and the movie had helped me want to have a few guns from this era and this part of a bigger aspiration of mine.

Yeah I don’t have a single clone weapon of any kind. Happy to start here. No current interest in others

Very nice. What barrel/collar did you go with?

So I think I'm going to get started on one. I found an old A2 upper in the safe. Its got a ban era Bushmaster 20 inch heavy barrel on it. Need to remove that and find a 14.5 P/W barrel. Might just leave it there for a bit. I think I'm going to do the M4 suppressor length so it will only be a 1 stamp rifle.
