I think the pinned barrel upper i got sent was probably a one off. Guess if you have enough barrels fall off for you they will make sure it doesn't happen again.

My BRN 180 is doing great, it has over 1000 rounds through it without issue. Got a Primary Arms 2.5x mounted on it and it maintains 2moa easily at 100 yards.

Dust covers are being altered, if you need a replacement, please PM us on this forum.
Gas port size is being opened up to avoid any short stroking issues.
PWS is test fitting on more lowers to ensure better compatibility.

The burr issue has been noted and passed to PWS.

All BRN-180 Uppers are test fired with ten rounds, including the first run. We are going to alter the test firing regimen to include rounds with a full magazine, with the port cover closed, as well as five only in the magazine to ensure bolt lock back.

My I highly recommend that you test the BRN-180 with a West Coast Weapon Works WC15 lowers. This would basically be an off the self solution for someone that Wants a Fixed Magazine option for use in California and several other non-free states.

Any idea if spare parts will ever be available?

Namely interested in bolts.

How long overall is a 16” brn180 from the tip threaded muzzle to the back end of the lower receiver?  Or with muzzle device on how long is it?

Anybody get the 18.5" over the 16" and why?  Any difference in the function or length of the piston?

That looks awesome.....sorta wanting a 180 upper now.

Dangit.  I wonder if there's any hope of brownells making a retro-styled upper?  I know it wouldn't look just like the original 180 but I just don't like ge look of full freefloat uppers

what would be the point of AR18 look-alike upper? It would/must be square and all available furniture is round for the front. The back side is another issue, also round for a typical AR lower. I know people like sticking things into holes that don't belong ... like round into square.

Anyone has any idea if/when shorty will be available? It was in pre-production, looks like from earlier posts, in September, and there is nothing on Brownell's site. It's not available, which is troubling, also lack of spare parts, like bolts. I hope it wasn't a short run that they did and parts will be available, but when? It has been almost a year. The square bolts alone would be worth while to sell. The complete upper is kind of pricey plus I got fucked on the upper because when ordered 18" was only available, now it looks like 18" on better sale proly because most people buy 16". This sucks.

Are muzzle threads on this thing custom or regular AR threads? 1/2x28?

Will the piston be susceptible to failure, damage, or simply making it tougher to clean since it is not protected by closed hand-guards?  The pistons in AKs and 180/180B's are protected under hand-guards and other assemblies.  The rail system would clearly protect from direct physical harm, but does that mean this is just a fair weather bench rifle or do the materials, linkages, and the PSIs involved make everything a non-issue except for maybe cleaning (not even thinking of a"torture test").

Well, I have absolutely no complaints over the BRN-180 and PWS at this point.

My 16" BRN-180 upper is still working great and has no sign of failure or issue, I have only had a single failure in the rifle it is on and it was a magazine feed issue (occurred when same mag was used in a CZ BREN as well). Gotta be approaching 3,000 rounds through it based on how much brass I got sitting around. No sign of excessive wear on anything. Action stays clean, front end gets hot but that's where piston guns will dump more heat unlike AR15s putting it into the bolt carrier group.

Shoots smooth and accurate, is compact and light. I gotta say I love how it performs with a low (2.5x) power optic on it.

PWS reached out to me because the suppressor cup was forgotten in the upper they sent me, they quickly mailed me the piston cup. I forgot that it even was missing that. They were really quick to address all this and I greatly appreciate that.

Wouldn't have said I was happy with the purchase 3 months ago but I definitely am now. They seem to have ironed out the kinks.

I don't suppose anyone with the 1815 lower would happen to have a wolf T91 upper to see how it would look?

I am tnhinking that would be a unique looking addition for my 12.5" 91 upper

This is the exact reason I bought one  It will be a bit before I get it together though, working on finishing my MARS-H and MARS-L rifles first.

Anybody heard if brownell plans on doing a 14.5 version?

Anybody have any information on the I.D. of the gas system and length of the gas port if one were to swap out a barrel for 14.5? Is the 16" upper a carbine or mid-length gas system or is it a unique length?

Can anyone compare the recoil of the BRN-180 uppers to comparably-sized standard AR15s?

The 16” is lighter recoil than a standard 16” midlength AR, the BRN180 has a 4-6oz reciprocating mass advantage depending on buffer weight.

Curious thought:  was there not at one time some conventional wisdom that reliability required a certain necessary ratio for reciprocating weight vs. cartridge weight?  I am curious if the BRN180 has a very low ratio due to the need to shorten the carrier to fit within an AR15 lower dimensions.  Or if that conventional wisdom no longer has any currency.

After digesting Brownell's info page on the upper, and especially after seeing that reciprocating charging handle, I started plotting to get one. I think this is actually the revolution they say it is.

However, now my state is planning to ban AR15s, with confiscation, so nothing new for me until this settles out.

Just buy the upper. I'm sure you have other AR lowers you could run it on.
