I know it's not a true A1 upper but I came across these earlier tonight:
https://www.deltateamtactical.com/NEW-US-Military-A1-Stripped-Upper-Receiver-Rare-Find-Great-For-Retro-Builds_p_6390.html

I've got one inbound with a few other items I picked up.  I've purchased from them with caution in the past but this will be my 4th order with them so hopefully no issues will come up as the last 3 went fine.

What would be a "correct" barrel to pair with this upper?

LOL...you jokers...you bought all of them up already.

52 views, now that you've bought them up, what barrels are we adding?

A nice way to go is a Canadian C7. It's the A1 upper with the brass deflector, government profile barrel, all on an A2 lower. I did mine with an A1 stock fitted with an A2 buttplate (it's my understanding that the Canadians had a few different length stocks they used). Here's mine; it is a great shooter:

I bought a C7 upper a year or so ago. I built a carbine with mine. Its a 723/733 IDF rifle. It has a tear drop forward assist. A 14.5 inch 1:12 barrel with an A1 or A2 (cant remember now) flash hider. It has the A2 door and A2 pistol grip. I saw a picture of a girl carrying one and really dug the rifle. She sold me on the build too.

The C7 is a great upper and a fun one to take liberties with. I was going to build a Black Hawk Down rifle but didn't. I have seen pictures of Delta guys with them but mostly A2's.

My C7 build is the light. Its much more lighter than my 629 build. At least it feels that way. If I had to sell off all my rifles I think my C7 is one I would keep. I would take it over my M4 clones and all my other retro rifles. I might want to keep a 604. Maybe the M203. Maybe the 629. I have to stop. The rifles, they grow when you are not looking.

Very nice C7!  OP, you could also put a 14.5 lightweight carbine barrel (Canadian C8 or US 653) or an M4 barrel on it which were both used during the transition from the 653 to the M4 with that C7 type upper.

Atleast it's their second best seller. I emailed them asking if they're gonna get any.

I have been thinking that we should have some sort of "good deals" web tree where everyone that signs up agrees to purchase at most two or three of the "good deals".  Anyone caught purchasing more, or reselling the items for a profit, would be banned from the tree, and not get notified of future deals. Hiw hard would this be to set up?

Same. I just sold a hybrid A1/C7 complete upper I built to my dad, but hell if I could have gotten a stripped one for $30 I'd have bought one and just sat on it until a good deal on barrels popped up... Oh well.

I would have liked one.

Maybe it's a good idea to just forbid any heads up ads.
Even though the thread is a discussion on which barrel.
OP could have asked the questions without the link or mentioning price.
I see linking ads or asking where to buy parts different than asking a question.

If I'm not shopppng (which precludes buying) for a Mercedes I dont inquire where to buy one.
Same with other common parts

The site says it new milsurp. But also says new production. Which one is it?

It's possible the site made an error and just dropped the item.
Remember those 601 h/gs from
Numrich??

I'd hate to see people stop posting deals when they arise; there are a number of sellers/dealers that I would have never known existed if it wasn't for posts like this. It is a shame though when some take advantage of deals like this instead of letting everyone participate.

We don't know how many they had though, there may have only been a few when the OP posted this link.

Bunch of darn posting banners/controllers showed up this morning

If one person did buy them up, I'm sorry to hear that happens, but I shared the link hoping other members would get a chance to buy one as well.  With 52 views of this thread before they went out of stock it's a decent chance that several folks purchased.  Considering they do free shipping on $120+ orders, I'm sure some folks bought multiples.

As to the description of the upper being MilSurp new production, the photo shows the broken A fordge mark.  I'm going to speculate that thes were never used (new production) C7 uppers intended for a Candian or IDF contract(MilSurp) that were cleared out on the civilian market. The retailer seems to buy up wholesale lots from production overruns and companies that are going out of business and then resells.

I feel confident in this based on the items they sell and what I've purchased from them in the past.  For example, When I ordered the C7 I also ordered an LAR side charger upper with full 6.5G bolt carrier group for $139...LAR is now out of business despite a good reputation when you google them, and the BCG is NIB so it was like I got the side charging features and upper for free.

Side note, the have A2 uppers as well but $125.

But, part of our retro community is sharing.  We share ideas, opinions, compliments, AND criticisms. We provide heads up about scammers, AND heads up for deals & good prices.  Maybe we should not post direct links when we find a good deal, we should just post something like "I just found a GREAT deal on C7 uppers.  If you are looking for one, IM me and I will give you the details".  That would make it more dificult for the "flippers" to operate, and if someone contacts you about a deal and you know they are a flipper, you do not have to give them the information.  Personally, I will buy items at Gun Shows to flip (I see this as saving the items for the retro community) but I have made a point of never purchasing items on this site with the intention of resale.  Many times someone has posted a good deal in the EE, and I only purchase what I need for my builds and leave the rest for others. The heads up post yesterday for the SP1 was such a deal.  It could have been purchased, and flipped for a $400-500 profit, but it was better to leave it up on here for someone who NEEDED it. Not everything has to be about profit.

There used to be a tacky thread showing vendors and where to find parts.

So even if there was a rule.   You could bring that back.
Still if it's a hella good deal , you can share without placing a giant label or Bannner on it.
This way people actually looking for something will read it.
Not because they saw the 30$ new uppers on sale In the title.

op. This has happened before.

At Apex gun parts.   The 601 selectors , r. gravy , and the retro cash thread is the first I recall.
The things were linked.  Gravy went there and picked the 601s.
Then posted a pic of them all

Then the 50 cent grey mag buttons.   Linked and sold  out in minutes

Back to the OP's question.  I used one of the Bushmaster 14.5" Govt barrels with Phantom FH that were floating around for a wile.  I used a big head forward assist and put it on an A2 lower with an A2 grip with the finger bump removed (I hate those things).  It is my late "mostly" RO723.  A pencil 14.5" barrel would be appropriate for a more early model.  There was a bunch of mixing and matching going on in the mid 1980's.

I hate seeing deals like these and then read "Out Of Stock".  It happens every time.

There may have only been a few in stock, and it is also possible that it wasn't one person buying them all.  I mean heck I would have gotten a few myself at that price not to resell but for my future builds.  I really love the C7/A1 uppers and wish someone would come out with a budget C7/A1 upper at under $100 for all of us wanting to do KISS truck guns etc.

Right now the $150 A1 uppers from Nodak/Brownells is as cheap as it gets if you want an A1 upper.  I just wish someone else would start churning out the C7/A1 in bulk even if they wouldn't be the quality of Nodaks you would likely see a cheaper price and they would be in stock.  The norm anymore is $30-40 flat top uppers so I am sure someone could still make plenty of profit selling them at $75 each if they had a big enough operation.

Anyways, I signed up for the wish list as well, who knows maybe I will be able to pick up a couple.  It'd be awesome if they planned on keeping them in stock even if the price does go up some.  From all the negatives I have heard about DTT I would be very leery of making that large of an order out with them... and I bet you will be waiting a long time on the uppers to come in.  They could also have defects, to all of you who ordered some please post pics up when you receive them!

They have several standard forward assist, but no large head. Large head forward assist are rare finds these days. I managed to score two of them a few years ago for my two 723 builds. I would still like to have one for my 727 since it has the A1 profile lower.

BTW, there are really only three production models that would have used the M16A1E1/C7 type upper. The U.S. models would be the 723 and 733. The other is the Canadian C7 rifle.

The 1985 Colt catalog shows two different variations of the 723 upper, one is a true A1 upper without the bump, the other has the bump.  It's not surprising since colt is known to use up existing stock before switching to newer parts.

No bump 1985:

Bump, 1986:

My 723 clone has a Mid-70s LM upper w/ a .750 FSB 16" pencil bbl on a Anderson no right side markings A2 grip/lower and 4pos Colt N stock, @Jhud has seen it in person, and I got my last Big Head FA from him a couple months ago(I think it was his last one).  If I put the sling and bands on it it's a IDF clone, if I strip it down it's a Desert Storm security carbine(Gen Schwarzkopf pic getting out of the H60).

As for the uppers, I would have bought three max.
That would finish all my in progress builds.

As for the OPs question, I put a Brownells 14.7" .625 1/12 on the C7 upper I picked up earlier this year.

Might not be clone correct but I like skinny carbine barrels and Brownells had them on sale.

These are new G.I. surplus, but need tweaking to work properly

Wonder what that means, if its just that they don't fit on an A2 lower that's cool with me... but if it's something else.

A2 uppers for $44
https://www.deltateamtactical.com/US-Military-A2-Forged-Stripped-Upper-Receiver-New-Old-Stock-Very-Good-Condition-Like-New_p_6513.html

Word of caution, they sent me the C7 upper in a USPS first classing bubble wrap mailing envelope, got a decent small scuff on the carry handle edge in transit.

Looks like they've either capped the quantity you can put in your basket at 15 or they've only got 15 left at this time...and for the record, I was only trying to check the quantity left in stock, not trying order that many.

UPDATE: that's live inventory, it's down to 14 now.
