Completed this about 6 years ago and finally getting around to post some updated pictures of my Springfield 67F, that I started in Sept 2008 (refer to page 5 for starting pics).

Specs:
* Springfield model 67F--no serial number (manufactured prior to 1968 GCA?)
* NOS Vietnam era buttstock with correct "T-vent" pad and correct rear sling attachment (purchased from Sarco when they were available in 2010)
* After-market barrel sling swivel using AR-15 sling loop
* Barrel cut to around 20"
* General Purpose strap sling

The last photo shows a comparison of the 69RXL barrel vs. the shortened 67F barrel.  I'm considering swapping the barrel and magazine tube to use a Savage 69RXL barrel and extended magazine tube.  Are these barrels difficult to remove?

Purchased in 2010.  A few pictures of my factory Savage 69RXL Series E shotgun.  I believe this is considered to be the "Riot" and Law Enforcement version shotgun produced by Savage from 1982 to 1989.

Specs:
* Original and complete
* Original 18.5 inch RXL barrel with sling stud (can fire 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells)
* Original 7 shot magazine tube
* All wood and "T-vent" recoil pad are original
* NOS Seatbelt sling

I just finished Saving this sweet 1980's icon and Got her back to normal.  Its a Winchester 1200 Police in Nickle.  I found the Original (but not to gun) set of wood at a great shop in Auburn Maine.  This gun came from my Brother-inlaw's Dept over 10 years ago and back then some idiot (ME) put after market plastic junk on it.   I have repented and the retro gods helped me find a set of wood for her.   (the 1300 defender is the trunk guns now)

Late to the retro trenchgun game. For my donor, i chose a slight different approach from the typical Remington, Winchester, Stevens. Mine is a JC Higgins model 20. Barrel was shortened 9". To get a longer magazine tube, i used one off of a Mossburg 500 (fits like a "fist on an eye" after shortening to the correct length). I used a Numrich heat shield/bayonet attachment, and magazine plug from a Winchester 97'. Moly resin from John Norrell. Heres a few before and after pics.  Does anybody know where i can get a sling swivel for the stock?

Two different types of swivels for you, depending on which one you like best, both were used at one point or another by different manufacturers.

These are all super cool. Shortly after my old unit returned from Iraq in 2011 I was called over by the supply sergeant (I was the unit armorer at the time) to take a look at 4 "new" shotguns we had just received. Instead of the sleek new Mossbergs I was expecting he showed me four rusty Winchester 1200s complete with bayonet lugs and heat shields. I will have to look and see if I still have any pictures of them on my old phone.

Honestly there isn't much of one, 600-800 is about the going rate for a gold one, black ones about 1000.

Took me a about a week to fine one, I was the only bidder at $699.

Thanks for posting that link. I decided to order one and picked it up this week. This morning I took the wife's hair dryer to the stubborn stickers and gave it a quick wipe down with CLP. Pulling up the left sticker on the stock revealed a STATE OF ARIZ stamp. Which for me, having been born in Phoenix, only adds to the cool factor.

Other than handling/rack wear, the finish looks really nice. It must not have been shot much looking at the action bar and mag tube. Comparing the scratches near the muzzle, it appears I may have received the one shown in their stock photo.

It isn't very crisp but it looks to have a '9V' code on top of the barrel. Google tells me the V indicates a 1968 year of manufacture.

Unfortunately, the rear sling swivel has been removed so if I cant find an original, ill try to make one from a sling stud and an AR15 swivel loop.

I'm glad I picked one up. I've definitely spent $170 (plus $24 for shipping/fees) on dumber things...

What was that Less Lethal all about? Very nice looking shotgun. Like the dark finish on it.

Nice!  I picked one up, too.  Mine, like yours, has no rear sling swivel.  I asked the seller before I ordered if he had any with rear swivels (I noticed in his photo the gun had no rear swivel), but unfortunately he did not.  That's neat to know the "State of Arizona" is stamped (or at least probably) under the decal.  I, at least for now, decided to leave my decals as they are.  This is my 4th one of the dumb things, so the decals make this one a little different.

Someone asked what the "Less Lethal" is all about.  The gun is the same, it was just intended to be used for rubber shot, bean bags, etc.  It's the ammo used in it that is "less lethal."

Jumped on the ol' Google machine again and it sounds like the Arizona Guard or DEMA (Dept. of Emergency and Military Affairs) bought a number of these back in the day.

The test fire went well. Ran out to the farm and managed to pop a couple pigeons as they flew out of the old barn. Not bad for its first shots and me not being much of a bird hunter.

Thanks for the link for the swivel, I'll give that a shot.

I just picked up a Stevens 520 that is going to be a Trench gun copy.  Who has the repo heat shield/bayo lug for sale?  I found the Winchester setup on Numrich but did not see a Stevens.  I used to see them on EBAY but there are none listed now.

Thanks,

I used the one from Numrich (Fit, like a "fist on an eye") It is installed on an old J.C.Higgins. If you want, i could make an external measurement of my barrel, so that you could compare to your barrel. That way you,d know if it will fit your application.

The Numrich will fit the stevens with a little effort or possibly reaming the heat shield assembly - I have seen some variability on the Steven's barrel thickness depending on years of Mfr or if its a A model.  They got a little narrower as they progressed.  The steel on the earliest stevens 520 double hump is pretty hard.and thick

I recently picked up two more shotguns for a song.

Adding a WInchester model 12 (Faux riot) Its however made in Dec 1941 - so sort of WWII (Vintage) gun. Got it dirt cheap as it had an awful black spray paint job and a Lyman Cutts comp on it.  No military marks at all.  Some TLC, Aircraft stripper and some effort  shows a decent original finish underneath.

Also got a Savage 720 - got it so darn cheap its almost stealing - This just needed a screw to be screwed in appropriately and cleaned lubed.  Used some Gunkote on the rceiver refinished wood, cut barrel to 18.25.  Shoots nice with cheap ammo from walmart so far - I'm lovin it.

Thanks for the offer.  If you could do that It would be great.  I am ready to start on it.

I like your JC Higgins.  Here is a picture of mine.  It has a Mossberg heat shield. The barrel was cut down and a Cutts Commentator was pinned and welded on. Overall length is now just over 18.5 inches plus choke.   It has a rail on top for the optic and a rail on the pump.  I also put a Mossberg retaining strap on the pump. Sling is next upgrade.

I just finished my Stevens model 67 Vietnam Era Clone.  I'm going to post pictures and start on my 520 next.

Yes it was.  got it for just $250  Cutts and spray paint really devalued it, but there was a decent Riot gun underneath it all - I still may put a numrich shroud on it and do it as a trenchgun - not sure yet.

The Original Winchester 1200 heat shield was unique and not the same as 97 and model 12.  The nose of it had a flange and served as the end of the barrel.  That being said, I think you could spend a bit of effort and modify one to work and fit on the gun even if its not original configuration.

I carried one of these on my first deployment to Kosovo.  I ended up building one of my own years later complete with correct heat shield.....

Anyone seen an original heat shield for the 1200 for sale lately? Does anyone make a repo? Also, which shotgun mounted the M5A1 Garand bayonet?

Anyone seen an original heat shield for the 1200 for sale lately? Does anyone make a repo? Also, which shotgun mounted the M5A1 Garand bayonet?
Thanks

I've only seen them on ebay - and recently within months I saw one go for $400 new in the wrap - do an ebay search for completed auctions - you might be able to find a source.  You might also try contacting East Taylor - East Taylor Parts for Anitque Guns the 1200 is about the only model he doesn't make, but he may make one custom for a price less than the originals are going for.  Or simply use the winchester 12 and 97 model and fit it - it will look close.

The plain model 1200 trench gun  pump fore-end is regularly on ebay.

Ok, got my 1200 complete for now. A friend had a Stevens 77E heat shield / bayonet lug assembly and I found the forearm new in box on ebay. I had few of the rear sling swivels in my parts box. The magazine cap came from gunpartscorp. So, until I find a heat shield for a 1200, this will do.

Looks Great - The 1200 is one I don't have a copy of at the moment -

How well did the Heat Shield fit?

The heat shield is a very nice fit. It accepts the M5A1 bayonet, which I just happen to have an "extra" one.

I know a guy that has half a dozen original US government contract heat shields with bayonet lugs for sale made for the Stevens 77E, which will also fit the Ithaca 37, and maybe other shotguns.  If you're interested, send me an email and I can help set you up.

This thread reminds me - got another shotgun.

A Ithaca DeerSlayer Police I wish it was a true retro, its 80s Vintage, but was a great deal- paid $224 for it.

I working on my Stevens 77E build! I have gotten all  my parts together to  complete it. My donor shotgun is a Springfield Model 67H with a 28 inch barrel! I have gotten a more correct looking 20 inch barrel with the sling swivel attached versus using a barrel band! I am needing help on removing the 28 inch and replacing it with the 20 inch barrel.

Can anyone give any advise as to the best way to switch out the barrels.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Needs to be Park'd but I can at least take it to events and beat it up without feeling any guilt. I put the barrel on myself with a vice, wood blocks and hammer. Adds a whole new meaning to "beater" shotgun, but it fires and serves its purpose.

If you're looking for the proper 20" barrel with the sling swivel lug, look for a barrel for the Savage model 69R or 69R-H. These are the civilian versions and are improved Cyl. but look the same. I got mine from Numrich, but that was about a year and half ago.
