Outstanding! I am in love with the BTDT look, and those have clearly BTDT. The patina on the steel parts is glorious, as is the wear on the one turning gold.

Awesome!

Yes, thank you for your brilliant observation.

I have a closet full of slings, and will mount one of my choosing when it suits me.

A 181XXX serial number isn't a 1980 vintage,is it? My 157xxx SP-1 carbine was made in 1982.
Very nice rifle,though.

That's why I said approximately
Probably 1983-84
Seems serial #'s after 1979 are difficult to pin down accurately
I am a Colt direct dealer and this SP1 is in my personal collection
Easy enough for me to call my contacts in Colt Archives and try to pinpoint exact date of manufacture
I will post results after speaking with Colt Archives
In any event,I  feel very lucky to have found an early  SP 1 New in Original Box
I have other SP 1's but this is the only Unfired New SP 1 I have run across in a very long time..and I deal
almost exclusively in Colts, antique and  modern and specialize in SAA's and 1911's but handle many Colt AR's early and current

Sorry, the serial number on my SP-1 is 157xxx.

here's my sp1 carbine. I've had it maybe 20 years, and it's about as plain jane as they come.http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/T00lmanii/coltcarbine.jpg

and here's a couple 80% lowers and machining jig plates I made up. Hopefully, I'll post some pics as I move along on a retro project.http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/T00lmanii/rec802.jpg

and here's  a pic of my Colt scope. I don't know if it's considered retro or not. I bought it new, years ago.http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/T00lmanii/coltscope1.jpg

Here is mine... Built in 1973.... I traded a car I had $75 in for it and 2 other guns... I had no Idea what ar-15 he had till he dropped it off the next day when he picked up the title to the car. I really did not care either it was just  te cherry on top of the deal.  I love shooting this thing!!! I will take some better pics it is in way better shape then it shows in this pic.

Heres my little greenie,  all done up..
Yes, I know, Delaware A2 lower, I'm planning on reprofiling it sometime soon, and chopping up / redoing the boltcatch and magazine button.
All original green furniture, edgewater buffer, early bend gastube, cast FSB (oly arms) GM upper,  GM charging handle, original dimpled pins and windage screw, though I drilled the selector myself. Also the mid style firing pin, solid buttcap screw and machined retainer. In one of my cans I have an old airforce Rodman 22 conversion that shoots like a dream too.
Lastly, I still need to get it all reanodized right, it's rattles at the moment so as not to be black, and find myself a chrome carrier... if anyone has an extra, I'd be happy to trade my barely used one. Lol

As wrong as it feels the 40 rd. Pmag and X300 just look "right" on this rifle.

Specs -
Nordic lower receiver
Colt M16A1 kit
Colt barrel
early RPB 37mm (sits higher like a true 203)
Norrell's Moly Resin.

I have the quad sight for the carry handle but I don't know how to put it on. If anyone could walk me through it I'd be extremely grateful.
