What is the farthest realistic distance for a 16" .308 with the various loads out there? in a precision platform with long range optics. Trying to build something to overlap with my Bolt gun. Wondering what the farthest kills the British soldiers are doing with the LMTs.

M118LR at 2475fps is supersonic to a 1000yds (just barely). I'm sure you can push a handload with that bullet or with 155 Palma's even faster, so decide for yourself how far you want to shoot it. With that said, just because it's supersonic to a 1000yds, doesn't make it my first choice when shooting that far.

I wouldn't try to take a 16 past 600yds personally. That said, there's quite a few LaRue OBR 16 owners taking and making shots out to 1000yds.
I ain't that good - not even close. That, and I have nowhere to even try around here, ha.

You can take them to 1000 but it is iffy. However, they are very good out to 800 yards. I have made good honest center mass hits on a 3/4 scale steel IPSC target out to 800 yards with my 16" LMT MWS. My altitude is 4000 ft above sea level. I know of shooters using the 16" POF doing the same at sea level.
