150 grain ballistic tips are devestating, with pleanty of penetration. The thin jacket lends itself to great accuracy, sometimes better than matchkings. The polymer tip allows loading to consistant overall length. Oh, and they are available to handload or in loaded commercial ammunition.
I killed two deer with them this year, one handloaded and one with ammo from federal. Both were dead when they hit the ground, though one was a head shot. The second hit one rib going in, shredded the heart and lungs, and took out 3 ribs going out. First time that I saw a deer die without even twitching.
One friend shot a turkey with one of my handloads, and said, " it looks like he swallowed a cherry bomb!" We were still able to save the breast.
Another friend killed 2 elk, one spike and one cow; with my 150 grain BT 308 handloads, so I remain confident in their penetration capabilities.
If you want something for a little longer range you might try the 165s. Also the Accubond is a great all-around bullet. It is bonded like the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, but has a Much higher ballistic coefficient. And it expands almost as rapidly as the ballistic tip. This is the bullet I use for most huntng. But, at 308 velocities the 150 ballistic tip istough to beat.
