What is the advantage to using stainless over chrome moly?  How does a stainless barrel's life compare to a chrome lined barrel?

Besides being more corrosion resistant, the claim is that they do last slightly longer.  This is a popular opinion among barrel makers and competition shooters, but it is not easily proven.

Neither stainless nor chrome-moly will last longer than a chrome-lined barrel.  It's at least twice as long with the chrome lining.  You will however suffer a penalty in accuracy.

The accuracy in the stainless barrels is supposed to taper off less dramatically so you experience average accuracy for a long period of time.

The chrome lined barrels shoot great for 4500-6700 rds and then accuracy at some point dramatically tapers off and that's why I prefer stainless.
