How's the 14.5 dissipator with the rifle-length port running?  Or is that not what I'm seeing?

Maybe that's a 16 with rifle length port hard to tell.

If that's a 14.5 that would be a nice barrel to use for a suppressed rifle.

Any chance you guys will do a run in 6.8mm SPC? I'd be especially interested in a 16" Dissy with rifle length gas system.

I like the medium contour, it is something which has been missing for a long time in the mainstream market.

Nicely done.

We have a 14.5 dissipater(below) we run with a CAR or Mid Gas system.  It wouldn't work with the full length due to how close the gas port is to the muzzle.

Below is our 14.5 mid-length.

Sorry if there was any confusion

How much would the dissipater with mid-length gas, permed Phantom, and fixed 'F' front sight go for? Thanks, BSW

The 14.5 Midlength  with the Phantom is awsome looking.

I handed the first one this weekend, it was very nice, and really short lookin.

Is it possible to have the 14.5 middy in a "light weight" configuration?

If you are just needing it lightened in the front it would ad $55.
John

Interesting.  Thanks.

The top most picture, I like the idea of that but I dont think it would work for my future setup. I plan on getting the Troy, now RD, suppressor.  The mount for it extends about 2 and a half inches down the barrel, so the front sight would have to be pushed back that much. You have that slight area that looks a tad under .750, and Im guessing the front sight couldnt be mounted there. Am I correct?

If I may...

I have all my AR's logged into Forest's EXCELLENT AR15 weight calculation table.  I was doing some re-configuring to see how much lighter I could get my wife's Bushmaster Superlight, and here's what I realized about the mid-length government profile barrels.

According to the table: (all figures are bare barrel only, no front sight tower, barrel nut, or delta ring)

A 16" Bushmaster Superlight barrel weighs 23.7oz.
A 16" RRA mid-length profiled to A2 under the HG (the "ADCO" mid-length) weighs 26.3oz.

Doing the math with the HBAR and M4 barrels both in 14.5" and 16" lengths shows a weight difference of 3.2oz between the two lengths in the same profiles.

By extrapolation, a 14.5", government profiled mid-length barrel like CMMG is offering would weigh approximately 23.1 oz, which is actually .6oz LESS than the 16" superlight!

In addition, shortening the skinny Bushmaster barrel to 14.5" (though my numbers aren't as concrete as I have far less data to sample) yields less than 2oz of weight reduction, so comparing apples to apples (14.5" to 14.5") you only save about 1.5oz with a 14.5" superlight.

Again, just my $.02

Thanks again FOREST!!!

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the 14.5 middy on an assembled upper, would you? Or even better, a full rifle.

Not to hi-jack CMMG's post, but was the barrel turned down also in front of the FSB?

No, it was not.

FWIW, I didn't intend for this to be a "hijack", but rather trying to help it along.  It would be great to hear from CMMG directly what their new 14.5" mid-length barrels weigh, but until we do, based on my experience with 16" government profiled middies, I don't personally think spending $55 to have the front turned down would be worth the slight return in reduced weight.  you're only talking about 2.5" of barrel past the front sight anyway.

I'm having a HARD time not putting my current build on hold in order to get one of these!

Which reminds me...  Is the 14.5" mid-length available as a barrel assembly only or is it just complete uppers at this time?

Thanks!

What's the whole upper run with standard hg's and carry handle?

Not entirely sure but I believe so. These are the "whole she-bang" barrels. 1:7, usually gov't, chromed, and probably 4150. Hence the $250-300 asking price, but its worth it.

Hmm, HAD finally decided on one of your 16" middys, might be nice to shave a bit of length and go for the 14.5"...  How difficult is it to permanently attach the muzzle brake/flash suppressor?

This is definitely a hijack, or at least OT, but it looks like the latest TDI "CBS16" stock (not the older two AA battery one that's "ribbed" for her pleasure, or the side-saddle).  It holds four CR123 batteries in that "box" and has a picatinny rail on one side that same box for something or other.

I posted a thread on it last week, but it got deleted for some reason.

At any rate I just ordered a 14.5" midlength barrel with phantom.
