I'm considering a Bushnell 4200 elite 4x16x50 or 6x24x40.  Can it handle the recoil?

  If you compare the Leupold scope to the B&L Elite you will discover the Leupold in a compareable power will be shorter and lighter.  I usually look at two scopes in the Leupold line, the 4.5X14 50mm and the 6.5X20 50mm.  The 4.5X14 gives high enough power at the range while going low enough for hunting and gives 30% more light than a 40mm Obj.  I use the 6.5X20 for long range applications. Also, the 2X7 Leupold makes a great AR15 scope.

Considering the recoil of 300RUM, I would look for something with plenty of eye relief.

A Leupold Mk4 16X would rate serious consideration by me, given its 4" eye relief, high magnification, 140 moa internal elevation, and proven performance on 50 BMG rifles.

Your RUM tossing 220gr Matchkings at over 3000 fps could be a helluva long range rig.

I have the Elite 4200 4-16X40 on my Remingtion 700 Sendero 300ultramag, I chose the 40mm obj so the scope would be mounted lower, works better with the style of stock on this model.

The Elite 4200 is recoil tested to 10,000 rounds of .375H&H Magnum and the eye relief is 3.5" also when compared to my Leupold VariX3 the clearity and brightness is equal or better, the the finger adjustable turrets are precise, this scope is an incredable value for $300 from Natchez.

I have a Leupold Vari-XIII 3.5-10 and a Bushnell 4200 2.5-10.  The Leupold is lighter and shorter.  In every other respect, the Bushnell is better.  It is brighter and clearer.  I have compared them side by side, and I am able to identify targets farther away and see them in poorer light with Bushnell.  It also has a wider field of view, more windage and elevation adjustment, finger adjustable windage and elevation, and more range of magnification.  Plus the power knob is much, much easier to turn.  Hands down IMHO the Bushnell is a better scope.  As kind of a bonus, the Bushnell is cheaper.  [url]www.natchezss.com[/url] has a sale on 4200s right now (under $300); [url]www.swfa.com[/url] also has good prices.

I'd get the 4-16 over the 6-24.  The field of view is pretty narrow with the bigger scope, and you lose a lot of windage and elevation adjustment range.  16x seems like plenty of magnification.

My 4200 has been sitting on a magnum rifle for  a few years now, and has had no problems with the recoil.  Of course, neither has my Leupold.  Both have great warranties.
