A 30 cal 125 grain bullet at 2400 fps from a ar15, same magazine ,bolt and carrier.I'm surprised that this round is not alot more popular. The new remington 6.8 at 2650 fps 115 grain bullet will require a diferent bolt and mag from what I've read. Are there any major problems with the 300 cartridge.I'm trying to get some info for a winter project thanks.

Refer to www.quarterbore.com's website, read the 300 whisper stuff. Also refer to SSK's web site, he is the creator. If you plan to shoot sub-sonic, or use with a can, a 1x8 twist barrel is need for the over 200gr bullets need for sub-sonic velocities.

The 300 whisper is a great cartridge and I am glad to see SBR7_11 already suggested my little collection of trivia... Here is the link to my 300 Whisper pages: http://www.quarterbore.com/300whisper/index.html You will want to look at the "Sample Weapons" pages as you can see that different people have gone about 300 Whipsper projects in different ways. The big keys are an adjustable gas system and a fast (1:8 twist) barrel as SBR7_11 suggested. Beyond that, you don't need a long barrel with the slight powder charges but the cartridge is quite capable and nearly equals 30/30 or 7.62x39 performance balistically as well as with terminal performance which makes it great as a tactical as well as hunting cartridge. Also, I see this page is not linked to the main index yet but check out this M-16 with a silencer and see the video at the bottom of the page... Now, this is what I really want!
