Does anybody know what type of chamber BM puts in their varmint bbl's? Kinda leaning toward the RRA w/ the Wylde chamber. I've had J&T, and M&A varmint type barrels, but the throat is so long there is no way to seat the bullet close to the lands w/o going over max length to fit the magazine. Any input would be helpful. TIA

Bushmaster lists their Varmint 24" chrome moly barrel and their stainless 24" Varmint barrel as .223 Remington chambers... www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/lr-24v.asp

That civilian chamber has a long.... throat to prevent reloaders from blowing the snot out of it. It helps equalize chamber pressure from round to round so an overloaded hot rock doesn't blow in your face. If you want get a new match BBL 1" turned down to .75 for the gas block and you can have the tight chamber and throat.

If you look at Bushmasters web site, every rifle, not just the Varminter, states that the chamber is 223 Remington (5.56mm). The varminter specs also gives velocity readings with M193 and M855.

Looks like it'll be the short throated Wylde, RRA then.

To clarify: Bushmaster states for the Varminter:
Machined to same specifications as our DCM Competition Barrel with tolerances twice as tight as regular barrels.

The DCM barrel specifications in the Bushmaster catalog states:
The chamber is machined to SAAMI specifications.

I read into that the Varminter has a .223 chamber, not a 5.56 NATO... Bushmaster needs to be a bit more clear and specific regarding chamber specs on each of the models, you shouldn't have to cross-reference to find the info... [;)]

Thanks, I was under the impression that the BM Varminters were just .223 chambered. Perhaps they should put a little paragraph at the bottom of the upper page explaining what chamber is used, the way RRA does in their catalog. Thanks again.
