I have a standard stock and want to get rid of the rear sling mount.  If I unscrew it and take it out then the back plate is loose.  How can I get rid of it?

Take it out - cut the sling loop off the plate down and re-install.

I thought that might be the only answer.  Was hoping there was a more elegant way but I had the hack saw ready just in case.

My local AR guy sells QD studs with the screw hole so when you remove the issue sling mount, you can insert the QD stud and tighten it with the bottom buttplate screw.  It's lower profile, and gives you the ability to use QD sling swivels.

I think he gets them from Brownells or DPMS.
