It seems the 507th (the unit Pvt Jessica Lynch was in) think that the CLP was to blame for malfunctions.

"A number of Army veterans and contractors have denounced CLP as totally ineffective in preventing sand and dust buildup in weapons in Iraq."

NO SHIT! Who else didn't know that sand sticks to oil?

Just another reason to run Ar's nearly dry in the desert (or in my case all the time since I just preffer it that way- cleans easier and is more reliable).

Luckilly Infantrymen get trained at Ft. Benning (sandy environment) so they learn that lesson before it bites them in the ass

Sorry guys I thought this was new info.  I found some humor in the fact that the media is trying to make this out to be a government money savings scandal when really it is just poor maintenance given their operational environment.

yeah.........and according to Militec's advertising mentality would have prevented any of the 507th soldiers from dying.  Hope those metal parts aren't in a humid environment![peep]

There are two ways to skin a cat (you can lightly oil the parts and then wipe them dry) and the M-16 will run great but sand won't stick and it will be protected from rust untill it gets rained on or a couple weeks or 300+ rds pass at which point you just repeat the process and you are good to go (of course their isn't much rain in the desert).
