Just got a used Knights M5 handguard assembly for a 20" barrel and besides the upper and lower halves, there is also a small metal piece that has two tiny springs on either side of it.
Anyone tell me what this is and where it goes?

Better yet, anyone got the instructions to the KAC M5 RAS that they could copy and email me?

Will try to post pics later today.

On a government profile or a SP 1 barrel, this is where it goes:

On a HBar it is not needed.

Actually, I don't think it is needed on an A2 profile either, just on an SP-1

You are looking at an A2 government profile barrel.

I stand corrected.

Of course, mine came with no instructions so I left it out with no apparent ill effects.

Since I put it in five minutes ago, the bottom rail seems a tad more snug.

Guys thanks for the help.
I checked the pdf file and it didn't show this adapter. The pic solved it for me. Thanks Raptor22!
