I have the same rifle and my serial number is MH 04XXXX. When I called colt I was told for that series of rifles all serial numbers MH 086020 and below were pre-ban. How much did you pay for your lower, if you don't mind telling.

Leadfoot's number above is correct. Any MH prefix below that number is preban. Anything above is postban, according to Colt.

I appreciate the replies. I paid around $900 for the complete rifle in its original configuration. It was only after I put a shorter and lighter barrel (with a bayonet lug) and a collapsable stock that I found out there were legalities involved. I then joined the NRA hoping that my two cents will help the already sloping litigations involving these and other unattractive gun regulations.
