Looking to buy M4 handguards. Is there a big difference in how much heat will be felt between handguards with single or double heat shields?

Yes, and no. If you empty a few mags rapid fire you'll notice the difference. If you unload a few more rapid fire, it wouldn't make a difference.

Both have advantages. Double heat sheild - Reduces "FELT" heat transferred to your hands by reflecting the heat back to the barrel. Your barrel will retain heat for longer amount of time. Single heat sheild - Does not reduce heat transfer to your hand, but at the same time it maximizes the heat dissipation. During rapid, sustained fire, your hands might get VERY hot.
