The cerakote raw or over anno debate is interesting. For years I have wondered why factory Noveke Bazooka green guns look good, and then every gun done by a cerakoter looks like bight green pureed peas? This might be the answer - starting with a etched anno surface vs raw.

Does anyone have experience getting a gun done in Bazooka Green?

Check out Deadlock where I got my Cerakote done. They did some Bazooka Green Cerakote for Grainger (@bobafettdunks) and it looks awesome.

Yes, but they're being allocated for complete uppers and full guns.

That's the last I heard anyway when I spoke to them on the phone a couple months ago.

I can't speak on Cag usage, but pretty sure DA shot down that claim as well, way earlier in the thread.
Check pg11 and 12.

Maybe you should not throw your friends under the bus should someone with actual power at any of those companies try to figure out who leaked information about SMU contracts.

But what do I know? Besides how to keep a secret that is.

I did a quick scroll through the past few pages and didn't see pics of 5.56 uppers. I'll look again.

I was going to comment about one of my Cerakoted 5.56 uppers, but it's mid-length, with A5 buffer system and I shoot unsuppressed.

The account that originally quoted you is one of the founders of DA.
Being that this clone is still relatively new, I'm more inclined to go by his insight and what limited pics that have surfaced.

But you're right, We'll just have to wait for more Itw pics to know for certain.

My Wolfman took almost 400 days. Longest I ever waited for a Form 4 approval.

Probably wouldn't hurt to call, but my wait was similar.

Emailed noveske on cerakoting. They told me they do leave a light anodizing on prior to coating. I also spoke with a recommended coater(by noveske reps) noveske used for the wrm fzy collaboration rifles they did, which they didnt have any anodizing when noveske sent them the guns to cerakote. Apparently those guns are holding up well though. The recommended Cerakoter (sp?) told me they couldn’t reanodize and coat like noveske but they could be bead blast to leave a light Cerakote and then apply another layer leaving two layers of protection so they when it wears, there’s FDE underneath  and not silver.

All the talk about cerakote over amo made me want to add my 2 cents. 7075 and 6061 without type 3 hardcoat is a completely different animal than with the ano.  The abrasion resistance, surface hardness and corrosion resistance of type 3 hardcoat ano alum makes it suitable for use in military small arms. without that ceramic skin the aluminum will almost certainly experience premature wear from regular use.

If I had anything to do with procurement where guns had to stand up to hard use I would insist any coating be applied over anodize.

yep. Now it's a matter of how to correct the cerakote job. Can our rifles be anodized again and cerakoted in this manner? or is a double layer of cerakote, as offered by Noveske's cerakoter, be our only option since the anodizing has been blasted off.

Stuck in the same boat.   Sitting on a Gen3 upper that doesn't have Noveske written on the left hand side, but its not "clone correct"
I may just pull the trigger and have it coated and be done with it

Cavete emptor guys. Snagged a Gen3 upper on the FB Noveske Trader group late last week, "lnib" for a couple hundred under msrp. Was stoked until it arrived today. Not even sure how you can do this while installing the barrel nut. The marring was covered up with what looks like wax/paint pen. Seller did take a pic of the area (last pic) But with the marring obscued and me "blinded" with finding a great deal; I didnt catch it. All in all though, the condition of the upper is as described, except for the blemish so I cant say I was completely faqued.

With that, any body know any refinishers who would be able to buff this out?

It about 1-1.5mm deep on the bottom portion. It was enough force that the edges of the marring is raised up. Guess it was a home build as the rail is prestine.

The expensive fix:
Find an excellent aluminum welder. Have him sandblast it to raw aluminum, build up the area with some weld. Sand it down flush with the sides. Take your time. Send it out to be sandblasted again and Cerakoted (anodizing over the weld will not look right). This solution will likely cost more than a new stripped upper.

The cheap fix:
Just hit it with some sandpaper on a block. Knock the protrusions down. Send it to someone to have it coated or rattle can it. This is the Way.

If it really bothers you for a safe queen build:
Sell the stripped upper and buy a new one.

From all the clone threads I've seen over the years, this is the only one where the finish (tano color difference not included) appears to be an issue.
