11.5 and 14.5

14.5 will be mid gas, chrome lined, medium profile.

11.5 will be chrome lined, taper profile.

11.5 gets the dot, 14.5 gets the scope.

I'd rather have 2x 12.5's or a 12.5 and a 16 (simply for fewer NFA hassles).

But 11.5 could be substituted.

I really have no use for a 5.56 over 16"

Ok so here’s the deal...

I own a KAC SR-15, Mod 1 (16”)

I’m returning from my 4th deployment and would like to buy a second SR-15.

I am leaning towards buying a 11.5” Mod 2.  I have purchased everything for it except the rifle itself.  T-2, high rise mount, furniture, SD-C, etc...

I only plan on purchasing 2, because my next 2 rifles will be SR-25 and SR-30.

I’m unsure of whether I’ll be happy with 11.5” and 16”, as 14.5” seems to be a very soft/sweet all around gun, especially from KAC.

Would this deter any of your choices?

You won’t notice the 16”-14.5” difference. It’s mere ounces. You will notice the 16”-11.5” difference. Get the 11.5” SR-15.

Thanks for all the responses!

Plan is to keep the 16” Mod1 and order the 11.5” Mod2.

Setup for the 11.5”:
- Magpul SL or SL-K stock
- Magpul K2 grip
- Magpul MOE foregrip
- KAC high rise mount
- Aimpoint T-2
- Law Tactical folder
- Geissele SD-C
- KAC Scout mount
- Surefire M300
- KAC MAMS brake
- KAC QD-CQB suppressor
- Full Multicam Black Cerakote job

Setup for the 16”:
- Magpul SL-S stock
- Magpul K2 grip
- KAC handstop
- Geissele 34mm mount
- LPVO undecided/leaning mk6
- Geissele SD-C
- KAC bipod (Will go on SR-25 later)
- KAC MAMS brake
- KAC QD suppressor
- Full Armor Black Cerakote job

After these 2 are finished I’ll likely pickup an SR-25 in 6.5 Creedmoor or the SR-30.

I think down the road I’ll eventually want a Mod2 in 14.5” but by that time it will probably be a Mod3.

My old setup was a 16” with LPVO and an 11.5” with red dot. The 16” got torn down after a number of years, and is being rebuilt as a 14.5. So, what I’ll have when I’m done:

14.5 with URX 3.1, NX8, and Surefire SB
11.5 with an Aimpoint and AAC M42K

I have everything from a 5” 9mm to 22” Valkyrie, but those two are my primary.

I only have one AR15 that is not a pistol. It's a pinned 14.5" with A2 stock.
If it was me, I'd go 16" setup as a recce with LPVO or ACOG and 11.5 setup as a pistol eith RDS. You can travel over state lines with both without asking permission.
Never owned a KAC, but they are seriously nice if not the best. I'm jealous!

.....this, because i like the way rifle length gas barrels shoot and velocity matters.

11.5 with RDS
The second is a toughie for me: KAC SR-16 or my Spike 15 18" with a Lothar Walter barrel on it.

I have a 16 with a Trijicon TX30 and a 20 with a Meopta 1-6 FFP

They work for me.

You can only have two.  One is dedicated red dot, the other has LPVO mounted.  All the rest of your gun money is spent in larger calibers.

What do you do?

Throw away the 14.5 and the 16" because if I want a rifle, the 18" gets it done, but mostly I shoot my 11.5" SBR's suppressed :-)
