Quick mock up.

Once again a thread has made me build a rifle.  I did have an extra SSA to use though .   Rocking the Recce 5 until my AEM5 is cleared sometime next year.  Pulled the 2.5-10 off my Mod 1 as I have a 3:5-15 NXS coming for it.  Any suggestions for a red dot to mount on the TRR?

Nice! About a month left on my AEM5. I swear the last month takes the longest.

Don’t forget to post some pictures. And if you could even post one of the gap between the can and rail you would be my hero.

Yes it is. I know it’s not Douglas or Lija but I got it with gas block and tube for a sweet deal and I’ve had great experience with Larue barrels so far. My SBR is a 12” Larue and my last Recce was a 16” Larue.

My barrel is an LT stealth also. CLE never got back to me on a custom 15.1”. So went with the stealth. It’s a precision barrel for sure.

CLE just built me a custom 14.5/mid/ops inc.  Shipped yesterday and should be here today.  Took a week from paying for it to it arriving.  I spoke with Frank and Theresa during the process. I'm 100% sure they can do it for you.

Do you have to run a custom color for those barrels? Wouldn't the step be 0.7 to O.725 instead of 0.725 to 0.75?

ETA- Juat noticed the gas block journal is 2" long on this barrels. Does the chop allow you to use that as the step? No real point to these questions other than curiosity

That's good to know. When I need to replace my Douglas I'd like to do a 14.5 or 15.1 Bartlein.

I was concerned with this but the shoulder of the barrel at the threads is .745 so it allows you enough meat to have the step added for the collar.

No you have to have it contoured like any other SPR contour for the AEM5.

The Gas Block journal is an optical illusion. It’s the same diameter as the rest of the barrel. The finish is just different.

Just went and tested mine out.

Sent adco my barrel and rail and told them I wanted a credit card to fit between the rail and can.

It’s perfect.

Are you SBRin the 15.1" Bbl or permanently attaching the brake?

I would think hi temp silver solder would be best method vs blind pin possibly damaging the threads.

Mine is a 15” SBR as Adco didn’t want to pin and weld the brake.

If you send the brake to D. Wilson Mfg. they can mill a flat spot in the threads to pin and weld. Ron said in the AE thread that he used to make brakes with a spot to pin and weld but weren’t very popular. This was his next suggestion.

Picture someone posted in the AE thread who sent their brake to D. Wilson.

An old AE brake with a flat spot.

Would it be tacky of me to ask how much it cost to have the barrel chopped and contoured by ADCO?

Awesome! I'm still trying to learn the MR556 and 416. I was on the train of them being overpriced for a while, but then I got to handle a friend's 416 for the first time the other day and I realized pretty quick why they cost what they do. And of course now I want to build a 14.5 416 recce upper. I'm kinda curious how the 416 chrome lined barrel would compare to the MR556 non chrome lined barrel...

My rule of thumb is if you have a QD Mount you tuna irons. If not run it slick. If you scope goes down then you needs tools to remove it. At that point just point and shoot ha.

Yeah that was my thought, if you ever lose the scope you can always use the housing for aiming. I was just wondering how much irons would actually get used when you need a wrench to pull the rings of anyway.

From what I have seen and researched I haven't come across any. I think the only mk4's in use were the 3.5-10x40 and the 3-9x36/2.5-8x36...but I'm not 100% on that.

I’ve decided optics wise I’m going to save my pennies go for the NF 2.5-10x24. I like the combo of weight, power and asthetics.

Until all those pennies are saved up I will be sporting a Burris XTR 1-5 just to have the gun on the range. Yes I know this is not correct but I want to shoot the gun in the months it will take to save up for the NF.
