Are the rings on a riser in this photo? If so, does anyone know which riser it is?

Added a KAC UNS-SR to the mix. Works pretty well with the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24 scope on the recce and it weighs all of 1.25 lbs:

damn Great_Balls_of_Fire that is an awesome setup

and no problem ARogueNinja, glad to help.

Thanks to Terry Houin for posting this pic of 2 recce rifles with those leupold tall turret scopes.  I can't tell but it looks like a medium FF RAS on the second guy:

Before that these were the only other setups I could find of pre-2005 NXS scoped rifles.
this heli pic rifle looks very similar to the one above ^ might be the same rifle and user

That would be a sweet build.  Looks like he might have a rubber stopper in the bottom of the grip.  Maybe?  Ergo makes them.  But I think it's a lone star grip and I don't know if they fit the lonestar grips right or if I'm just seeing things.

Hard to tell if the barrel is an M4 barrel but it maybe looks short enough.....  Possibly?

Are there any pictures of DG 14.5” Recce HK416s with longer hand guards? I’ve only ever seen the standard 9” pic rails.

Yep, it's a Lone Star Ordnance grip, they have the curved area at the palm.

Is that a MK1 rail? I thought it was a 416. But that’s definitely an AR upper and the double cross bolts look like a MK1 and a flared mag well on the lower.

That XM2010 with Mk6 is pretty slick also.

It's a pic from 'Damian_offthegrid' on IG.  Things to note like you mentioned are with the geissele rail yes, an early Steiner laser?,  black TD short QD grip (ADM mount), QD sling swivel,  and an unknown barrel that looks sand blasted? can't tell length either.  Upper and lower look like standard colt m4a1.  He got out in 2016, and it seems this is the last known public pic of a NSWDG direct impingement Recce rifle that I can find.  The last ones were from around 2011-2012, it'd be nice to know they still got DI "sniper M4s" as opposed to the 416s.

Rail looks like the 10” version as it has 5 slots up top if that’s the start of the muzzle device at the bottom I’d say it’s a 12.5. But it that’s the start of an ops collar I’d say it’s 16”.

John McPhee with a recce in Bosnia

My standard load out was my M4 carbine, EOtech which was a Bushnell holo sight at the time, ITPEL I2 laser. I would also carry 5 Belgian small frags in each pocket. Why you ask on small frags well better to be safe than sorry and..... Because I could. Lol.

Not a Bushnell/Eotech in this pic, but possibly a Bushnell 1-4 or one of the older Leupolds? It also looks like a standard M4 to me, but the PEQ-2

Well, for the time period it might have been a Leupold Vari-X , but it also could have been a Japanese MicroDot or one of the C-More LPVO. Delta was known to have those before the Short Dot came around.

Looks like he's running the same PR style Leupold as Brenner did, just with a Docter or JPoint on there. At first it looked like a mid rail but now it looks just like a standard Recce with rifle rail and 16" stainless.

I suppose they were now that I think of it, I think it was similar to how the Marines measured the barrels on their M40s off the recoil lug.

The drawing on their website shows 17" including extension.... So in other words, a standard 16 (really 16.5") barrel, measured from the bolt face like the ATF does.

Yep.  The Lilja will be about 16.5 according to ATF.  This was mine before install, compared to a civvy 16” govt profile, about .5” longer.  I didn’t get the tape lined up quite right, but the barrel extensions are aligned.

They're KAC I almost guarantee it, and they're probably the same fucking ones I'm fruitlesly chasing down that also apply to the Brenner Recce, and all 3 used with 1" leupolds.

I agree with them being KAC.  They look like the same rings found on SR-25s from the early to mid 2000's.  If you google image "sr-25 2000" you'll see a few.  They were widespread and theres quite a few images from various branches using SR-25s with these rings.

That is beautiful!!!!!

I've got a few questions and these are by in no way a critique.  I'm just not up on the exact details.  I had to refer back to the first page but is that mount kosher?  I don't even know what that is.  Is that an NF unimount?  It's not one I see in the ITW pics that I can remember.   Also, what made you decide on an A1 lower?

It is beautiful though.  I forget the name of the mini rds on top.  Inisght?  I dig them.

I swear I forget more than I remember stuff.  LOL.  Don't get old.

Sure thing. Yes that's a NF Unimount and yes its kosher. The NF rings were probably more prevalent but the Uninounts were definitely out there. A1 lower makes more sense and it's what I recall. (I'm sure someone will argue this but that's fine, IDK) If you think back to the time period, the A1 lowers would have been used here and then re-used yet again once the MK12 program hit. I just call it an MRDS, lol. Yes, Insight brand. See, your memory isn't that far gone!
