Today after work, I thought I’d run by GT Distributors to see if there was anything worthwhile. Seems I almost missed the boat.

GT got a bunch of Fort Worth PD police trade-in AR’s last week and I grabbed one of the last two for use as an urban truck gun. Here’s what came with the package:

-Rock River 16” carbine, midlength gas, A2 sights, heavy chrome barrel.

-Pelican 1700 roller case with good foam cut for rifle and accessories

-good quality single point sling and GG&G sling adapter

-3 GI mags

-Blackhawk 2 mag thigh rig

The bolt and carrier in mine looked like new, barrel needed cleaning, the upper and lower was scuffed but cleaned up with some Breakfree and synthetic steel wool. The few dings here and there were fixed with Alumablack.

Admittedly, it’s not really the rifle I was looking for. I would have preferred a lightweight barrel, but I can always swap it later if this one is crap. BUT, given the extras (especially the Pelican) I’d say I got the rifle for about $250-$350!

No issues at the range...got it zeroed and good to go

Where is this GT Distributors, and how often does this "Trade in deal" happen?
Inquiring minds, in TX, want to know...

Sounds like a really sweet deal. Especially with midlength gas and case.

Wow, sweet deal!  I really want an upper with a fixed carry handle, though I'm more in the A1 camp right now.

Get on the web, theres' one in North Austin, up by the Pickle Research Facility and one supposedly in Dallas- never been to that one. The one in Austin always has a shit ton of trade in police pistols- usually .40's lately and very often some sort of trade in shotguns or rifles. Rifles vary quite a bit, Mini 14's and Ar's. Shotguns run the gamut too, 500s, 590s, 870's, Stevens 67's, Winchester Defenders etc....

I have bought a bunch of pistols there over the years, some revolvers, quite a few Glocks and a Beretta or two. Thought about this deal but passed, got all the AR's I need and the configuration didn't do much for me....BUT, it was a good deal on a very solid rifle.

I'd say you got a lot of stuff for your money and that it is probably a real good shooter.

Yesterday I replaced the dead Trijicon front sight post with a standard GI A2 front post. Today I went to the range to re-zero.

Did an initial zero at 50 with some pretty inconsistent M855. Then I switched to 100 yards.

The pic below represents a 5 shot group at 100 yards with PMC X-Tac 62 gr. green tip. The four other shots under pasters are with LC M855. Given the iron sights, standard trigger and wobbly stock, I'd say this one is a keeper! FWIW, that "X" ring is 2.5" across.

After that I rolled the sights over to 300 and smacked a 12" gong at 300 yards 4 outta 5.

Despite the HATE you'll get for owning a Rock River AR, they are well made and accurate.

I have a LAR-8 stock A-4 that honestly shoots 1.20" groups.  If I free floated the bbl, who knows how much better it could go.

That is a nice set up at a great price with the Old School A-2 receiver for a KISS carbine - Truck Gun...
