The new vortex is pretty great. Eye box on 10x is a little tight, but better than the nx8. Glass quality is good, easy to get behind on 1x, good illumination. It’s a good buy.

I also think the credo is a better buy than the razor III. |

I'm still debating turning this back to a red dot setup and building a dedicated 11.5" upper with a URX2 and a Criterion CORE barrel. Some of the builds in here aren't making this any easier. Also debating on swapping my Mk12 down to a MINI RECCE and pin and welding a Rugged mount for my can since I have yet to just pull the trigger on an AEM5. I rarely shoot the 18" anymore. I know the real answer is to just build them all haha. https://i.imgur.com/cYA3D56.jpg View Quote If you don't shoot the Mk12 then I'd get rid of it, but you don't hear many saying that. Usually that's the gun people bring out every trip. AEM5 would probably sway you to keep it. |

To me, it's always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?," you can say, "Sorry, got these sacks."

I would say yes. Even though it’s a tank and it’s a 34mm tube- it’s really noticeable to me that it’s only 10” as opposed to the more common 12” range of other LPVOs. I know that may not seem like it matters, but the slightly shorter length coupled with the low profile turrets and the PTL that doesn’t stick out 3” makes for a nice tidy little package. Relatively. The reticle is pretty dang nice. The center dot is twice the size as the dot on the S&B- which had me worried. But it wasn’t an issue. It’s adequate for getting a precise zero at 100. Having the segmented circle and the dot illuminate helps with having a nice sized dot at 1x. It’s not so tiny that it takes that extra split second to pick it up. It has enough stadia and dots to give you what you need in 1/2 mil increments. The stadia are nice and thin. My holds at 500 yards are like 3 mils so it was easy to use and still see the target. Eyebox is a little tight at 8x. Tight enough compared to the S&B that I noticed it. Workable but noticeable. Magnification adjustment is smooth but stiff. Even with the PTL. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N7Ig2VM7qx0/X67_VD-ZhzI/AAAAAAAALhw/myQFY30rQXgUWrR2WP8OrW7_bB8uYgLjwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/F7769757-656A-442A-A32D-7652482DC8FF.jpeg View Quote @Maack Nice write up. I definitely hate NX8s...lol....Kidding. I only disagree on the point of the ATACR aspect. I don't think the nearly "double the cost " is justified by a couple of mm tube diameter or the reticle. The NX8 actually has a brighter red dot in full sun then the ATACR from my previous side by side testing. I do believe that the NX8 1-8 is hands down the best LPVO on the market. It is edged out by the razor ONLY IN the eyebox at full power by a hair which is negligible compared to weight and other features that the NX8 wins. |

But the big jump in glass quality does- for me at least. And yes, the illumination on the nx8 is brighter, but that doesn’t mean the illumination on the ATACR is not adequate. Pros and cons! |
