Afternoon, gents.  While I impatiently wait on my DSArms 10.3" upper to show so I can finally put together my Mod0, looking into parts for my Mod1 build.  Sourced a DD 10.3" barrel with Mk12 gas block and a new in the box RIS II.  Got a question about the upper.  Hard to source Colt's up here.  Would like to as close as possible match the color of Colt M4A1 lower it's going on.  Readily available options would be a BCM M4(sans the white BCM logo), an old school Poverty Pony, or a Colt Expanse stripped upper?  Colt Expanse was made by someone else for Colt, iirc? BCM seems like the best quality choice, but from what I've seen their anodizing seems a lot darker than Colt.  Anybody's advice/experience would be appreciated.
- Cheers from Canada

Out of the 3 choices you listed, I would roll with Bcm.

But being that your in Canada, why not go with Colt Diemaco? Wouldn't it be easier to source something on your side of the fence?

Is that a DD 203 or a 37mm?

I wouldn’t mind a 37mm, mostly because I can’t see a use for a 40mm... not like a normal civilian can really source 40mm HE.

It's a LMT 37mm that carmodyh had chopped to 9" by Class 3 Machining and then I bought it from him. I'll buy a real one eventually, and I was originally going to but I just got tired of looking for 37mm barrels and I love collecting Colt stuff but I couldn't bring myself to give AU $2,100 for one. I can source 40mm munitions through my agency but it's expensive, and like you said, it's not something I can source without being employed. I don't plan on staying there forever. You can get the 26.5mm adapters and use those munitions but it's just not the same. If DSA ever got their $595 40mm M203 receivers back in stock I'd buy one tomorrow and work on getting a 40mm barrel and registering it later.

Yes and no, believe it or not.  They still command a premium here. Talking 180$ Canadian dollar for the BCM vs 350$ for a CC, both strpped uppers.  Bigger issue right now is finding one as well. We had a big panic buy this month over possibility of an Order in Council ban(similar to your Executive Order laws, as I understand).  So CC obviously got bought up everywhere.  I myself bought a complete CC lower, which I will use for the Mod0 for now.
Thanks for the input gents. I'll keep an eye out for CC uppers coming back. They're very slow at restocking once they sell out
If nothing turns up in a timely manner, I'll pick up a BCM.

Offset 1X dot seems like an unnecessary choice with an LPVO. I mean, I understand not having time to adjust the scope to transitition to CQB... but if you're going to go through the trouble of using a primary optic along with using an offset dot (rather than just dialing the LPVO to 1X) then you might as well go ACOG + RMR. Great glass, no batteries to worry about, and way more rugged/lightweight/compact than any LPVO.

It’s probably for more unforgiving positions when you can’t get behind the glass and with the rmr you have unlimited eye relief so you can get on target without being on the stock if need be

Our own @Stukas87 has written an article that addresses the choice of this specific optic combo. Primarily the reasoning is that the majority of fighting takes place at 300m to 500m with few engagements at true CQB distance.

If you know you're going to be fighting mostly at 300m+, why settle for 4x when you can have 6x or 8x?

I believe the negative aspects of an offset RDS used ICW a -6x or -8x variable- chiefly being added bulk, and to a lesser degree weight- are far outweighed by the positives. Mainly the ability to leave your primary ready for the more likely medium/long range engagement, as well as the ability to make hits in awkward positions where you may not be able to get right behind your main optic.

Yeah it’s temporary until I grab another cqd mount. The paracord through the fsp was common when an improvised sling would be used. Guys would use general purpose carry straps and paracord on guns like the xm177.

Still dig the ACOG w/ RMR on top and find the RMR under nods is legit, and just jumped on the reflex sight / Aimpoint Micro on top of the LPVO a la Tony Cowden... but I also dig risers on top of risers and carry handle optics

Speaking from personal experience, I know it won't.

If it does, it's not gonna last much longer.
