Or that they were purchased with USSOCOM money so USSOCOM decides the disposition, i.e. destroy, retain, sell as surplus, etc... Or they are just hanging on to them in case there are problems with the new fielded system. Big Army doesn't like having spare or extra weapon parts laying around (pilferage) so stuff gets turned in and is either put back into the supply system, refurbished, or destroyed. |

In contrast to Big Army’s concern about pilferage, Air Force armorers have to deal with hind-tit funding practically forever. At least in the past, if they could find a place to store parts, they would generally keep them. And put ‘em on an equipment custodian’s account, so some new guy would have to physically inventory them when the previous guy rotated out.

Ok I have a question and forgive me if it has been asked and answered in any one of the 841 pages of this thread. I’m curious as to how us armorers and armories went about converting block I weapons to block II’s. Specifically those rifles with socom fsb barrels. Did they simply remove the fsb’s and install the mk12 gas block over the existing taper pin slots? Or did they use brand new barrels for all the conversions? I ask because I have a socom barrel that is missing the original fsb yet it has the taper pin slots in the barrel. I want to make sure it’s at least situationally, technically and categorically correct. I have considered ridding myself of this barrel but if they converted fsb barrels to the non fsb version of the block II rifle I will keep it and simply dimple the barrel and add a mk12 gas block. All help appreciated and god bless you all.

New FN SOCOM comes dimpled and no FSB CD |

Ok here is a dumb question. What ammo do you primarily use in your block II clones? I am looking at splitting a case with some people and cant decide. I thought about m855, m193, and iwi mk262 clone. Ik the guys dont want to go with the mk262 as it is double the price of the others.

Reason is because trajectory and zero are virtually identical. |

This might sound stupid but what are yall using for a gb when cloning block II's with fsb socom barrels? Just trim the fsb or move forward with the mk12 gb and an open taper pin slot.

The issued SOCOM barrel Block II URGs use a never had a FSB installed FN barrel. |

However, there are a few with shaved down FSBs. KAC M4A1 RIS II without FSB slot, if barrel has FSB it gets removed, barrel dimpled and low profile gas cylinder installed (same NSN as Mk12s). If barrel doesn't have FSB such as FN SOCOM or Crane Govt profile with dimples, just install gas cylinder/block. CD |
