On a lark, just unscrewed the mag catch, and when I did, a small thin spiral spring fell out - not the mag catch spring, this is just larger than the diameter of the mag catch screw and only 1 and a half or 2 coils.  Is this new to the M4A1?

Same here. Wonder if it's part of the original spring that while screwing it in or out, caught and uncoiled it a bit making it larger in diameter and eventually breaking it?

That's my guess. Since his issue gun was converted from an M4 to M4A1 I'm sure that LPK (minus FCG) has some age to it. May have broken the mag catch spring just from use over the years

Interesting. Guess it could've been something that was stuck inside the spring during the manufacturing process and wasn't caught during assembly/QC.

Also pictured is the "Block III" build. Wasn't planning on it being a clone, but with the preliferation of Geissele rails in the wild, it's kinda turned in to one.

Long time lurker in this thread, and now I can participate due to getting my tax stamp back! I know there is some deviance from a true clone, like the 3 prong FH, DD QD sling swivel instead of the CQD unit, & the PRO is a place holder. I need to actually assemble the upper one of these evenings and then head to the range to get it sighted in.

I'm leaning toward the EOTech G33 & EXPS3 combo for my Block II FSP build.  How kosher is the EXPS3-2? I'm not sold on it completely, just curious.

Also, can I please get a Block II FSP with EOTech G33 and EXPS3 picture dump?  I need more gun pron.

What trigger and trigger pins are you using in that aero lower on the "block III"
I just assembled one with a milspec trigger and pins and they walk. More so suppressed because of the back pressure, but they started to unsuppressed as well.

Milspec Trigger I pulled from a complete BCM lower. Haven't had any issues with the pins. But I'm going to swap the trigger for a G2S soon anyways.

Well since Photobucket locked out all my previous pics from years past on here.
Repost official pics of my M4A1 set-up 2015 Afghanistan
And Complete Evolution  and how I got there through three tours......
Here is rifle from 1st Afghan trip 2012:

2014 Tour went with a MK18:

Trying to shoot out to 500meters kinda difficult with only 4 power Elcan short barrel.
Went into 2015 with this switched after 1st fire fight:

With that went back to 14.5 for better ballistics
Its a heavy set-up but worth carrying for average distance I engaged threats 2015; around 300-400 meters.
Also shit canned a weapon light. 1 to cut weight and its Afghans job to go in 1st during building clearing.

The Stukas Set-Up
Specs:
Issued:
Geissele SSF trigger
SF 4 Prong Flash Hider with SOCOM Suppressor
RIS II FSP
LA-5
Non Issued:
Ark Defense Enhanced SOPMOD Stock
BCM Gunfighter Grip
Magpul AFG
Trijicon VCOG 1-6 with 5.56 BDC
Predator off set mount with EOTech MRDS later replaced with Doctor sight
Arredondo extended mag well
Redi-Mag extended bolt catch
Raptor Charging Handle
Ambi selector lever
VTAC sling
Light when I did run one BlackHawk Gladius

In case you are wondering now that I'm retired here is my version of a clone of my old work gun
(Yes I know not even close to a M4A1) But what the Hell:
16inch Adams Arms with all that same crap, Burris Fast Fire II in Off set mount:

Figured I'd post mine, spent last year while deployed gathering parts, then kind of set her aside. It's just a plain jane block 2 but as accurate I could get; pri gasbuster, cqd mounts, be Meyers flash hider, beater car stock, all Colt upper w/ socom barrel. The lower is a SOLGW w/ alg trigger. I used to have an eotech on it, then threw an aimpoint on, but I have such a severe astigmatism, the dot fucks with me. So I dunno what to do, maybe try an acog. This might be the last photo in this configuration. I picked up a geissele rail, so I'm thinking of swapping it out.

Why did u switch out the MRDS? I found the doctor to be a monumental pain in terms of making adjustments. The finer dot to me wasn't really worth it

Doctor sight is a huge pain in the ass to have to re-zero every time you change batteries but
EOTech MRDS too fragile (plastic body), without protective wings on the sight super easy to break
Had a guy drop his out of the box mounting it on Elcan, fell on concrete floor and shattered (not just lens the body itself)

But what really made me switch back
I was out on a mission 50 degree weather and rain
I noticed a coating was coming off the lens (little sparkles of something when I tried to clean lens off)
Made the sight permanently blurry

The way I ran down range; VCOG stayed on 6 power most of the time, off-set red dot for anything close.
So having a dot cannot trust no good.

Doctor sight is like 1st Gen mini red dot, technology, but battery does last a whole tour plus some 6-7 months I have found.
SOCOM does need to adopt Trijicon RMR across the board, then guys could mount it on their rifles or their MOS cut Glocks which are standard issue now.

I'm very happy with how it turned out, the first time I saw your rifle I knew that was the one I wanted to clone. In the future I may through a 45 degree RMR on it, but for now, and my use, the VCOG on 1x is more than enough for me to run quickly and effectively up close.
Always appreciate your insight and great info for the thread!

Between the rezeroing issue (which would eventually become an issue) and the complete failure of usefulness of the Docter when pointed anywhere near the sun (one dot would turn into 5 dots, due to reflection), I decided to switch to the RMR last week.  I know, not clone correct, but much more useful for me.

Nice man, I'm also in the reflex on top of the optic crowd. I have one rifle with a 45 degree aimpoint on it, but it stays on there 100 percent of the time. I swap between eotech/acog on my M4A1 clone, so the reflex on top of the ACOG and everything keeping zero works out well for me.

I don't think you'll find anyone who says the doctor is better than an RMR, but my JPoint is still going strong and I dig the large dot size. When it dies i'll swap it out with an RMR.
