My guess is Ron does knurling mechanically thus the statements about the smooth cans not being able to be knurled after the fact. Trajectory is probably laser. I was going to laser knurling on my smooth AEM5's but they grew on me and now I would not change them. But again I am speculating. I do not know this for sure.

My aem5 looks like the top one. My buddies aem5 looks like the bottom one. They’re both Sparks, NV cans

The NV one is mechanically done. You can see the runoff of the knurling wheels at the end of the knurled section. Rons probably had dull wheels or material stuck in them.

3.6-18. Not sure which reticle they are using, but of the currently available options I'd use PR1 Mil.

Hmm that looks pretty nice, will have to see what my dealer can get me one for. I do like that PR1 Mil illum reticle, not tons of stuff on it like their Christmas tree reticles.

Might have to pick one up and offload my Mk4

Not enough detail from those few pics, but I’ve stuck with the Trijicon 45deg pic mounts and have had no issue. The one 45deg Arisaka mount I had was a shitshow that came loose in a few rounds no matter how much blue Loctite I put on all the threads.

Hey guys!  Been reading through a lot of this thread (still going through it all, I've gone through a few hundred pages, as well as the front summary page).  Had a question for folks: If I were going for a Late Mod0...

  1. I know the front page notes that non-illuminated versions are generally okay.  For the Leupold Vari-X III Long Range 3.5-10x40mm (as noted "in-the-wild"), would the non-illuminated one still be kosher/clone-correct, or would I have to go with the illuminated one to be "most" correct?

  2. As for markings on the top cap, is there a "more" correct 308 (308 Win, 7.62mm M118LR, etc) marking?

Thanks for the help!  I've already got some stuff on order and can't wait to start getting things together!!

I don't think I've ever seen a mod 1 with an atacr 1-8. That's not to say it doesn't exist, obviously.

I'm running that exact scope on my "late" Mod 0:  Leupold Vari-X III Long Range 3.5-10x40mm with the 168gr .308 top turret. I have the 77gr 5.56 and 55gr .223 turrets as well, but I wanted the older dial and if I'm dialing it'll be in half minute increments vice using the "2", "3", etc settings based on actual drop calls from Strelok.

One more box checked off on the Mod 1. Transitional Titusville marked M-4 Match FF RAS. Time to pull everything apart again and get this thing mounted.

Just a hint of purple on mine. This ~2007 pic is a bit more vivid, I'd imagine the black dye probably breaks down more in the sun with UV exposure.

Last upper I got from PRI was Anchor Harvey IIRC.  Clone gods typically call for C keyhole or non-C keyhole, possibly C AF depending on which era of Holland, though I’d have no qualms running the Anchor Harvey.

Completed my Mod 1 paperwork, at least as well as I know how. The early Mildot Master with the full size instruction manual was the last piece of the puzzle.

Wondering what the cutoff would be for the latest version of the engraved PRI gasbusters. Which would be more correct for a ~2007 Mod 1 -- engraved or laser marked? Or could it go either way?

3.6-18 as mentioned. But they’re using a proprietary reticle. I went mk5 in a C1 max at 1.3” pictured a couple of pages back. I think it’s fits. Also went cch reticle cause it made a lot of sense on a gasser. But now they’re doing the PR2 reticle in the 3.6-18 so you have that option.
