Got a new AR thrown together last night. It was a pain in the butt getting the RISII on the upper because it is wider than a standard upper. I didn't realize the RISII would not fit until I started to install it. I milled out portions of the receiver to fit the bolt heads into (both sides) and sanded off the anti rotation tabs from the bolt up plate. I then pre installed the bolts into the bolt up plate before in was installed. Everything worked out fine in the end. Certainly not a standard install!
The milled out spots on the receiver are actually nice and neat looking but the oil residue makes them look worse in the photo.

This was a plain Jane AR I got in a trade with a plastic handguard and a FSP. I had the Emod, RISII, red dot and Troy sights laying around from past AR's. I just cut and shaped the FSP as I prefer the taper pins to set screws anyway. Still need a better red dot, pistol grip and some rail covers but not bad for a quick hand me down job.
This is my first side cocker and I am very impressed with how smooth the bolt carrier cycles inside the upper, much smoother than a standard upper and carrier.

Just installed the 15 inch AP Custom carbon fiber tube. Barrel is a Daniel Defense S2W 18 inch Midlength 1/7. Stock is Colt "CS" from a Canadian C7. It is A1 length built with A2 specs. All that is missing is a Harris bi-pod.
