I like it. This is similar to what I have in mind. Ive handled a set up similar to yours and it balanced really well.

The barrel is the government profile, correct? Does the fixed front sight have a gap or is it the correct size?

Here's the barrel profile and gas block:

Here are some of the FSB. I don't see any gaps.

That hex screw in the FSB. You wouldn't happen to know what size it is?

I couldn't find one small enough that would allow the top half of the handguard to sit properly.

I don't. I don't know how I'd measure it either. Perhaps you could call Palmetto, and they might be able to tell you, or even sell you one?

I used a 1/4-20 (could be a 1/4-28 too, can't quite remember) button head bolt in mine.

There's really no reason to have a screw there. I saw a pistol caliber upper a while back and they didn't use anything. On my personal dissy build I used a roll pin. I want to say it was 3/16" and I had to just barely drill the hole out bigger. You could just use a cut off gas tube, then you don't run the fsb and by the time you buy a drill bit and tap the gas tube is probably cheaper anyways.

I was *this* close to doing that (actually, I was going to just go flush at the end instead of just taking off the top), but the rifle length rail I have is one of the originals and not one with the Mloks. Since they're kind of rare and not making them anymore, I scrapped that idea.

I may order a new one and do that eventually.

It's a budget friendly build: Anderson lower, GI parts kit, MOE furniture, PSA upper with a BCG that the father in law had sitting around, and a Windham Weaponry heavy dissipator barrel with a Yankee Hill Phantom compensator.  The only issue I have with it is that it is by far the loudest, gassiest AR I have ever shot.  I don't know if it's the barrel, the BCG, or the compensator making it this way, but I definitely need to fix it.

Post count under 50 requires Mod approval before we can see it.  You being able to see it in Preview is normal.
Be glad it's not Google photo which doesn't show no matter what the post count.
Here's my "original" Bushmaster Dissy, 25 years old.  Won't show because it's Google Photo.  Can't get any of the Mods to fix this.

Finally get to add mine to the thread.

I've had it together for awhile but just got around to getting a crapperbucket photo hosting alternative.

The purpose of this rifle is just to be a beater/vehicle gun.  Also something to use in order to stay proficient with iron sights.  Plus I like the looks of Dissipators (no thanks to this thread) and wanted one.

Parts list:

PSA CHF Upper, mid length FN barrel
PSA Premium BCG and charging handle
Aero Precision lower
Sionics LPK enhanced
Magpul Enhanced (aluminum) trigger guard
P&S M5 RAS, VFG, and rail covers
GI carry handle
B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock
Magpul MIAD grip

I think that about covers it

As it sits now.

I have another picture of it with a regular SOPMOD stock and Surefire M951 from other rifles.  I like the look of it this way.  In the end I'll probably use the SOPMOD Bravo that is on it now for something else and buy a regular FDE SOPMOD for the Dissipator.  It'll probably get a tan M952V too.  Who knows.

These guys: http://www.blackgunswood.com/

We traded a few emails before I placed my order, and they seem like a pretty good operation. They got me my furniture pretty fast and it was exactly what I expected. I recommend them if you like their style. There are a few other wood furniture outfits operating out there, but each has a different overall style to their products.

Crappy i potato pic but did some updates.

Ditched the C7 upper, installed a M4 upper. Chopped carry handle BUIS. Old AIMPOINT I traded some guy for a long time ago and a homemade VTAC ish sling but I sewed this one to make it streamlined and as lightweight as I could. Everything is mechanically zeroed just got to sight it in.

Thanks. Yours is looking good as well. Do you like that rear right? That's the one I had originally envisioned for my build before I decided I would do a fold-down (which I haven't added yet).

Here's an update on my build:

To be done:

- Wrench the flash hider on properly with the crush washer etc
- Check headspace with field gauge
- Purchase/install tritium front sight post and tritium folding rear sight
- Purchase/install sling QD swivels
- Purchase/install light mount, light, switch

No pics and just a receiver and barrel so far here.

Mega Arms matched billet receiver set and a Voodoo 16.5 evo light barrel.

Does the 16.5 barrel count as a Dissipator?

Guys, sorry but no pics yet.  I'm working on my first dissipator build, but I have a question.  I'm planning on using a carry handle, so I should follow the zeroing procedure for a 16" barrel, not a 20" barrel, correct?  The difference is based on the velocity, not sight radius, correct?  Thanks, and I hope to have pics soon!

Are you talking about RIBZ? If so, it depends on velocity and sight radius. I can calculate how many clicks you need below 300 for 200 and 100 if you give me your muzzle velocity, bullet weight, and BC. I also need to know if you are working in yards or meters.

I'm working in yards and yes, the RIBZ method.  I don't know velocity yet as it's not yet built let alone to the range to shoot over the chronograph.

@Kvanderploeg

With those numbers, your 200y zero will be 6 clicks below the 300y marking (where the set screw is) and your 100y zero will be 9 clicks below the 300y marking (1 click from the 500y marking). This is for a detachable carry handle, a fixed carry handle will be different so let me know if you have a fixed carry handle. Also, your 400y mark will be 2 clicks too low, your 500y mark will be 4 clicks too low, and your 600y mark will be 7 clicks too low.

Thank you for the calculations on that.  I guess I should look at making a hotter plinker round, though it's easy, fast, and safe for bulk reloading.  Then again, I doubt I'll regularly (if ever) attempt to shoot this rifle and that ammo out past 300 yards.

If you're not shooting M855 through a 20" rifle or 12.5" carbine, it will never be perfect. You can always mark the elevation index to match your rifle's dope.

Nothing special. I got a mock-dissy upper from PSA. I normally wouldn't have bought a stainless but the price was right. Swapped the A3 for an A2, and threw on my YHM Phantom. Shoots great for what it is. Sorry about the link, I have a low post-count still.
