I just got an another LMT upper from an ar15.com industry partner and it is a 1/9 twist. Did LMT ever make a 1/9? The other 2 LMT uppers I have are all 1/7. Upon comparing all 3, the 1/9 is identical to my other LMT barrels.

Does anyone know

Thanks

It does have LMT on the side and was purchased from GTS AKA Dennys Guns.

That item is listed on his website as having a 1/9 twist barrel, and LMT has done special runs of 1/9 barrels in the past so it could be a Denny's exclusive kinda thing.

hmm... Dennys is good people, give them a call and get the info direct. if that doesn't answer the question or you need / want more info call LMT. the customer service is top notch at both places and they'll be able to help you out.

That is what I thought...personally it's all the same to me as long as it is an lmt barrel I don't care what twist. It has to be a special run....per the tag it is over 2 years old

Yep, he's had those "complete" LMT upper packages on his website for a while now.  Call him and ask though, he'll tell you what's up.

BTW

Still should be a good upper.

and there are plenty of SHTF loads that work great in 1/9 twist beside the MK262 77gr smk and 75gr TAP

Also
My bushmaster 1/9
shot the 77gr smk fine

I've never seen a real LMT with a 1.9 twist but it is very possible what the above poster has said is true. You can always call LMT and ask them although if it has a full inspection tag it is prob gtg. Denny's lists it as a 1/9 as well.

Someone mentioned shooting Gene Swanson and email and if you have a question he seems to be the one to ask. When I called LMT the other day they pretty much said he would be the one to call me back.

I bought one, coincidentally from Denny, a few years ago.  He had a number of factory LMT uppers with 11.5" 1/9 stainless HBars that were advertised as contract overruns from a govt order.  Came with LMT marked receiver and LMT QC tag.

I will be calling Gene tomorrow to get some background on these uppers. I totally trust Denny, he is great to deal with and a first class dealer. I just want to know why and for who they were produced. Once I find out I will let everyone know.

I didn't know LMT made anything with a 1/9 twist.

That said, it will still be a good upper.  If LMT does indeed make a 1/9, you can bet it is the best 1/9 out there.

LMT does not make a 1:9 twist barrel.
They have 4 twist rates for different calibers.
LMT standard mil spec 5.56 uppers: 1/7 twist
MRP barrels:  5.56 is 1:7, 6.8 SPC barrels are 1:10 and they have a .204 Ruger barrel that is 1:12
Their new .308 MRP MWS is a 1:11 twist.

Email f rom Gene

We did make some special runs of these barrels.  There should be a “star” or part of one stamped just inside the barrel extension on the face of the barrel.  You probably bought the uppers from Denny or Kieslers.  If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to contact me via email or give me a call.

Evidently some 1:9 twist barrels shoot heavier bullets just fine. Read a recent magazine article where a Stag 1:9 shot under MOA with TAP 75 gr.

I wonder who they were making the barrels for?

If you don't want a 1:9 twist, contact Denny's Guns and ask them to swap it out for you.  Shouldn't be a problem.
