Let's see the club or iron you use to hit that "bad boy".

Fluting or dimpling a rifled barrel after the fact is not a good idea.

You will lose accuracy. How much is anyone's guess.

contouring a rifle after the fact isnt a good idea either then?

With no splitter, visible wing / wickers and diffusers.  At what speed  does it airborne?

Looks a hell of a lot better than a like barrel

Probably should not try that on a VW

i like it. not worth the price in my opinion as it is really just for looks.

Fluting or contouring a barrel would be cheaper.

But if i had the extra $200 to make my rifle look even cooler, i'd do it.

I am a fan. I have several AR's, but none with.... I do think it is cool and would like to have one barrel done...

There are 2 reasons to dimple a barrel
1. weight savings
2. increased surface area

A dimpled barrel has more torsional and lateral rigidity than a fluted barrel.
assuming that both barrels have the same contour and weight reduction
and more mass can be removed from a barrel by dimpling than by fluting

each dimple will reduce the weight by .75 to 2 grams depending on the contour
a 20' Krieger can have over 350 dimples that’s about 14 oz

weight reduction on a Noveske 10.5 is about 3.5 oz

So if I want this done how much and does Melvin have a site?

Dimpled barrels exist because the fluted ones needed some competition in the race for the most ridiculous waste of money.

Considering the flaming pig weighs over 7oz, you could help reduce 1/2 its weight by doing the barrel.

This is what I'm interested in.  Any idea how much weight could be removed from the barrel of the 16" LMT .308?

' they do not bend the laws of physics and strengthen the barrel '

Well, fluting makes a barrel stiffer than a non-fluted barrel of the same weight per inch, and also speeds cooling. No laws of physics are broken or even bent. I don't know about dimples, haven't thought much about it, but since the dimples also increase surface area, cooling should also get a boost. A dimpled barrel, like a fluted one, will naturally be lighter than the same barrel not modified.

Displacing metal/mass makes a gun stiffer you say ... I'm guess ARFCOMMERs aren't physicists.

If you run out of ammo, then you can throw it.  Similar to a golf ball, the dimpled barrel will allow a longer range strike compared to a plain barrel ... but wait ... the plain barrel will have bought more ammo with the money saved from not dimpling.

Dimples stimulate the economy by willingly separating money from consumers, providing cashflow for gunsmiths to pursue innovations that are actually worthwhile.  Dimple away.

But does your wallet dissipate heat better if it's dimpled?

A dimpled or fluted barrel is stiffer than a non-fluted barrel that is the same weight.

But seriously, if you don't like them, don't get them.

I wouldn't worry too much what someone else does to their possessions.

I'm no expert like this guy but when I got mine back I was thrilled with the way the new barrel balanced, much better than before. It also cools down faster than any other barrel I have ever shot. I think the boolits probably go faster too, but I haven't checked it.

Nope....  it was KAC.  I've always enjoyed customising sports cars, motorcycles, and firearms.  They don't quite feel like they are mine
until I've monkeyed around with them a bit.  Anyway, I'm happy with my dimpled barrel.
