What would be a more modern take on an SPR optic sub $1000?

Started a new SPR project about the same time I finished my Recce upper.  I'm still missing a couple things, but its definately lighter than my SAM-R (almost) clone was.

If that’s what you want, go for it.  Myself, I prefer a bit more magnification, so I have the 3-18 power Strike Eagle.

I debated between these two:

Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18x44
Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 2-12x42

Ultimately went with the Vortex for a little more mag since I’m also planning to run a top-mounted red dot. I think something in 2.5-15 would be about perfect with a good reticle.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rifle-length adjustable gas block?

well, the gas block is whatever length gas tube you put on it. so literally any adjustable gas block will work. You just buy a rifle-length gas tube.

POF Dictator if your rifle's handguard will fit or Riflespeed

I've got the POF Dictator on my LR308 with M5 free float and haven't used it yet so I really cannot say much else except internal size matters. Aero AR15 Enhanced Gen 2 or the M5 free floats will work easily with the POF.

if you want to be able to adjust on the fly without tools, there aren't a lot of options. If you want to be able to do it on a gas block that's hidden under your rail without trying to jam something in through the mlok slots to click it to the next setting, then Riflespeed is pretty much the only option.

Found this local over the weekend and scooped it. An older Noveske SPR (gen 2 era) complete upper. Old SEI flash hider, Noveske marked quad rail, Mod 2 BCM/VLTOR Noveske marked charging handle.

Going to slap it on a gen 1 noveske lower until I can grab a gen 2.

@Watch_this71

Superlative Arms seems to have one of the most recommended/popular ones.

https://www.righttobear.com/superlative-arms-750-adjustable-gas-block-bleed-sabo-di-750cm/

I have two of them and they work well without any issues. I haven't had the adjustment screw get carbon locked while shooting suppressed, though I confess I don't have the ammo budget to shoot as much/hard as some people. My 12.5" build with my Triarc barrel is so well tuned without any gas adjustment, I think I'm going to swap the SA AGB to my SPR build that I am going to start since I just bought an 18" SPR barrel and a bunch of AAC 77gr OTM ammo.

Noice!!! Laid it down slick with the paint.  Which NF you got mounted up?

I rebarreled my old primary AR-15 with a BA SPR barrel, but I need to get a proper scope. I think I've settled on the Primary Arms 2.5x10-44 w/ Griffin reticle, and I'll eventually get a micro red dot for it too.

Go with the new 3-18

I appreciate the suggestion and I'll have a look! I built a 308 AR to do long range shooting but ammo is so expensive, that I'm discouraged from shooting it. This is really my first serious foray into magnified optics and long range shooting.

Edit: is this the one you're referring to?
