I think I'll swap out the fat handguards to the skinny ones I have on my M4gery this weekend.

Productive day today.

Both the irons and Trijicon MRO on suppressed EVO3 S1 are now zeroed for Federal HST 147 gr at 25 yard.

Fine tuned the suppressed Colt 727 and now poa is poi at 300 yard with both the irons and Aimpoint M3. Even managed to hit the 2’x3’ plate at 600 yard consistently using M855 and red dot with ~10 moa hold above the target.

Thank you

Also thanks to another member on here for trading out my RAS rails for a Colt A2 upper with M4 feed ramps. Decided I wanted to do a 727 clone with a TA01NSN mounted in the carry handle.

14.5 BCM upper.

the rail is a 10 inch Midwest Industries T-series combat rail

https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/MI-CRT10-p/mi-crt10.htm

I like this setup so much that I've got another one on the way and I'm going to put it on another 14.5 upper

Righteous. Add an acog or a dot, walk around some dusty hills holding in your piss for 12K+, throw it on the ground a few times and it'll be perfect.

Colt M4 Carbine from Walmart, Colt LE6920 restricted, and HK SP5.

Backing them up is a nice wall hanging my late Mom left me.

Here’s a Bulgarian AK74 I assembled.

We also have a member who has documented many of the weapons he has run across as he does repair, and M4 #489 was seen, but after its rebuild into a M4A1.

There is debate over in retro land about the first 1000 M4s when they were fielded in 1995. I'm on the side of those who think the first 1000 would have had the fixed carry handle like the A2 and would be the first W000001 to W001000 SN weapons. The Army just goes by NSN - a M4 is a M4, is a M4 no matter the later modification. Memories fade over time, and there is a case of one of the operators who was at the Desert One operation in 1980 that says he carried a M4 Carbine - which we know from the historical record did not yet exist. That is why the visual documentation is so vital.

The later XM4 had the double heat shield handguards, 4 position stock, and M4 feedramps, so one item of interest is if the first M4s were just like that but with the M4 Carbine roll mark with the Wxxxxxx SN.

There is a problem with assuming the original configuration of that Serial Number W00004XX.

It has been through at least one rework to upgrade it to an M4A1 and had the upper replaced.  It probably left the factory with a fixed carry handle.

All I can say is anything made before July 1994 probably left the factory with a fixed carry handle.

W00004XX is in its original configuration.  Colt M4 Series started at W000001.  6 digits not 7.  One too many zeros, means Colt has sold more then 10 million M4s.  M4A1 series block range started at W300001.  The ones we got issued in 5th SFGA Feb/Mar 95' where W302xxx-W303xxx block range.

And an M4 CARBINE (not M4A1) with what appears to be an original ‘AUTO’ roll mark in the FC selector area?

Thats confusing… I thought they were all marked ‘BURST’, some of which were eventually converted to ‘AUTO’ with the FC designation struck out and/or etched/rolled over.

The laser engraving looks like the commercial product and the British spelling makes me suspect originally made for Canada? But Colt has a rep for putting almost anything out the door....

So I asked a few vet friends about that, one of them said that the serial number is on somebody's property book, track it from there to the 7 warehouse that it was signed & received from as they have the original reciepts with shipment and issueing.

So many unanswered rabbit hole questions after that so I left it alone at the time. What's a property book and what's a 7 warehouse? The rest I get but not the first two considering that I'm just a civilian

Property Book is what each installation/base/post has as far as equipment goes. The installation then issues it to each unit as required.
