Quick follow-up question, I see some pics in this thread where the rifle has a magazine pouch on the buttstock. Is that part of a particular sling assembly, or is that an extra piece of kit?

Thanks!

Separate item entirely, though the Specter model has a sling loop built in.

ETA: Mine does anyway, web gear is not one of my strong points, so there may be variations I’m unaware of.

Their markings aren't correct anyway.

It says the right things, but the font and placement are off. It's currently the best option, but I think PSA could do it better.

Supposedly if you call all they do is say they’ll produce them when they get enough interest.

I’m skeptical of PSA’s attention to detail on the M4A1s. At this point I’d be happy with the correct nomenclature. I’m thinking the font is gonna be gigantic & look weird but hopefully I’m wrong.

It was my understanding that PSA was having the font verified as being correct, maybe I misunderstood?

I have a Block II build waiting on that lower, if it turns out poorly I may cry a little.

I'll be highly surprised if the font is correct. And they will not have the rolled look colt has. These will be engraved differently. I still want at least one to check out how they are.

Absolutely.
Had to put this one back together (had separated upper and lower to have two A2's at the same time, then I told myself stop now and put it back together).

I'm reading several books about Marines deployed in the middle east (such as for example, Ambush Alley, which I am reading for the second time) and wanted to have my A4 on my side.

Of course. It's one of the several, used (and abused) original Colt/USGI A2 stocks that have been used in the .Mil
There are a bunch more right now on eGay (like this), same as mine. They are worn out - naturally - which does contribute to the BTDT style that I have grown to like much more than flashy-new

copy, need to look. Saw a similar discolored stock on a A2 I want to clone. Got two new A2 stocks, but a good used and abused BTDT stock will make it more desirable.

Roger that. I too, like you, started out with the mint stuff at first.
Then I'd picture it, look at it and it never really clicked.
Why?
Found: used stuff (as longs as still whole, no cracks, not broken and still functional) has more 3D depth.
The scratches, discoloring, the time that has passed over gear creates traits that add personality and depth - visually! - to items.

It was hard to accept, but I became more interested in used items than the new ones.

I am that way as well. Using more used parts with wear and distressing new lowers to match some use on them.

I noticed that too. I think the majority of A4s out there don’t have them due to eye relief issues and/or uselessness. A few folks have posted pictures showing their ACOGs either mounted in front of a BUIS or all the way to the front of the upper receiver. Makes me wonder how they even shoot it.

Is there a free float rail that looks “very close” to the KAC RAS?

KAC has a free float RAS that’s over $500

The RAS used on the A4 is not a free float version.  You can find them in the EE around $100+.

Same here. I looked at getting a LaRue RCO mount to bring it all the way back, but that seemed like it would be too far back. Simply removing the BUIS and bringing the TA31 back a few notches provided a significantly better experience.

And practically speaking, the acog with a thumbscrew mount is pretty rugged. It's not like if it breaks in a fight you'll remove it and flip up the buis and re engage.

And further more. When we initially got the A4s they came with a carry handle. Which was either stashed, or screwed onto the rail so it wouldn't be lost if you had an acog. We didn't get buis. In 04-05

I’ve got two RAS’s on National Match float tubes.  It does extra weigh but isn’t too heavier. It’s not hard to do. You need to cut out the heat shields and the plastic spacers for the M-203.

Yes if used as intended. If you look at how the mount is shaped, it is meant to utilize the very back portion of your upper receiver. Most people buy them because it uses a single lever vs. two, but its true purpose is the get the ACOG to the very rear of the upper to significantly help with eye relief when using an A2 stock. See link to LaRue’s website below. Look at one of the last pictures to see what I’m talking about.

Looks like a mixed bag of lowers being used to mate up with Colt and FN A4 upper assemblies.

What lower are you using in your A4 clone?
