Almost done with it.  Still waiting on the light to come in and I have to dig out my USMC pig sticker I bought a few years back.

Only thing I’m not crazy about is the PSA logo on the upper receiver....but I got an FN rollstamp on the barrel so I shouldn’t bitch

I hope the Franklin BFS III works in this thing....give true meaning to “Burst”...

Nice rifle.

Do yourself a favor and get a real A2 grip, you’ll appreciate it.

Ah, that makes sense. I always wondered if Matech and the KAC micro were Army and Navy/Marines specific. In my time in we had M4s only at the squadron with matechs only.
I had never seen a KAC micro until I was out of the Army.

Never seen any KAC 600m micros.  Got a standard SOCOM KAC 600m right here for issue here in my hand with NSN 1005-01-499-6868.  Big Army has always issued the MaTech BUIS with either the M16A4 MWS and M4/M4A1 MWS.

I just ordered one last night. The photos show an FN upper with the Cerro forge mark, which I’ve never seen on an M16A4 in the civilian market. I’ve gotten the impression that early 2000s FNs may have used Cerro uppers, while later production rifles (and the Military Collector) show the Brass Aluminum square forge mark. Since I’m planning to clone the circa 2004 FN that I was issued, I’ve been looking for an FN Cerro upper and finally saw this one. I contacted them, and they confirmed that they have a Cerro upper they could sell me. I’ll post photos when it arrives. I’ll probably also be selling the FNMI-marked A4 barrel and stripped upper receiver I picked up, but I may swap some parts around with this upper to get the closest I can to a 2004 rifle. If the upper is NOS in good shape, I think it’s a great price, considering it comes with the carrying handle, which seems to run around $100-$125 by itself.

Thanks for the link.  I’ve been thinking about an A4 build for a few months now and was gonna be satisfied with a close enough clone.  Now I can have an actual upper.

I already built a close enough clone to the A2 I was issued at Parris Island and now I’ll have the one I had in the fleet.  I bought the Chaos lower from PSA a few weeks ago and it will have the A4 upper.  Definitely not clone but a good tribute as a Marine.  Now all I need are a bunch of metal mags that only FTF and it’ll be like old times again.

Upper arrived today.  Cerro forging, BCG looks good, and covered in oil.  Looks like some PFC or LCpl sprayed it down with CPL and handed it out the armory window.

Is your barrel cage code or FNMI marked? Mine has the FN cage code. I was hoping for FNMI to match the one I’m cloning, but I have a barrel that I can swap out. My upper looks great overall, clearly new and unused. My bolt is “MPE” marked (F with the underline). Carrier appears to be unmarked - it might have a faint F buried in oil, but I don’t think so. Came with the newer KAC rail panels. I’ll probably replace those eventually to represent an earlier rifle. Very happy with this upper!

Were M16A4's ever issued with LMT rear sights? The ones that look like a cut down carry handle.

I am debating if I want to buy another carry handle just for the aesthetics since they both do the same thing.

ETA you do not need a carry handle anyway, just throw any backup sight that you like.

You have now! You're welcome to clone my M16A4 that I carried in 2005 - I plan to. I wasn't issued a rear sight to go with the M68, so I used a personal LMT sight based on the recommendations of some folks on this and another forum.

I plan to clone it all the way down to the TangoDown single point sling loop between the stock and receiver, which for some reason I thought was a good idea on a musket. I'll move the VFG forward though. I didn't really use it back then and just put it at the rear of the handguard. Sorry about the fuzzy photo - you can just barely make out the LMT sight under my left hand. It was dark, late, an early digital camera, and the blades were spinning.

I’m gonna go with cage code, it had several numbers on it.

Don’t recall any markings on BCG, will look again.  How is your gas key staked?  I don’t recall ever seeing one staked the way mine is.  Having said that I didn’t pay attention to staking on my issued rifles.

Awesome! My original clone upper was closer than I thought. Though I went ahead and snagged a surplus upper.

I'll probably move the carry handle to my upper with just heat sheilds and my LMT sight and Aimpoint (pro) to the surplus upper.

Pics whenever the rain stops or the holiday tornado gets cleaned up a bit more.

Here are my M16A4 sorta clones. The fixed stock one is a FN surplus URG; it looks absolutely new aside from needing the bore cleaned.

Boy does that surplus upper shoot! I zeroed at 25 yards (paces) and was hitting a reduced torso target at 300 yards with boring regularity. I know my ALG ACT trigger is not correct, but with how well it shot, I think I'm gonna leave it.

The BCM was inspired by the Canadian C7A2, but I have seen some pictures of M16A4s with waffle stocks on them. And obviously the pistol grip is not correct. I probably have half a dozen A2 grips in the house and I couldn't find a single one.

I just finished mine. Sadly I was sent a 18’’ barrel from BA.  Because they were still out of stock. I am happy with it. But still looks off.  Super nice barrel.  Colt carry handle. Aero m16a4 lower. Aero upper.  Knights m5 rail.  Love it but still feels off without the 20’’ barrel.
