Thanks! Really digging that color. I might have to have one of my AR's coated in that.

This recon type carbine was my second build project way back in 2005 and I completed it in Dec. '05.

My original goal for this rifle was a minimalist type but using well proven parts and components with the low as possible cost.

It started out as a Colt model AR6721 marked "AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine" lower receiver without buffer tube assembly and no buttstock, a new but old stock made in 2002 during the ban.

Then I got a complete upper half of the same model 6721 with heavy contour 1/9 twist barrel and I replaced the barrel myself.

The barrel is a 16" Rock Creek Barrels mil-spec CMV steel alloy, medium contour under the handguard (0.800" to 0.850"), 1/7 twist, chrome lined, 5.56 NATO chamber and M4 enhanced feed ramps.

The barrel was chambered, contoured and assembled by Compass Lake Engineering FL.

Phoenix flash suppressor (discontinued new model available from Liberty Suppressors)
F marked front sight base
LaRue Tactical 9.0 picatinny rail system
Magpul & LaRue rail covers
Daniel Defense quick detachable sling mount
Colt M16 auto BCG
Norgon ambi mag catch
Magpul BAD lever
KNS Precision anti walk pins
LMT ambi selector
Magpul folding aluminum triggerguard (discontinued)
Magpul MIAD grip
Vltor mil-spec buffer tube
Colt H2 buffer
B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD stock (was Vltor EMOD/ IMOD stock)
Knight's Armament Micro 200-600M rear BUIS
Surefire M961 weaponlight
Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10X24 illuminated MOA BDC LPVO
Warne aluminum skeletonized quick detachable lever mount
Bobro-GG&G gen 1 aluminum bipod

Mags:
Magpul PMAG gen 2 & 3
Lancer Systems L5AWM translucent smoke
Hexmag gen 2

Future improvements:
Higher quality optic
13.5" M-LOK modular rail system

My cloneish Recce.  I do want a new mount so i can squeeze some Buis in there.

Soon to be a Recce.

Still looking at what kind of backup red dot I want to use. I'm tempted to use an RMR, but I also have a Primary Arms reddot that I'm not doing anything with, which is tempting to use. 45 offsets. The irons will be coming off now that the upper is built and tested.

Also trying to decide on a bi-pod setup. I really hate how large and blocky the pic rail versions are, but besides a Magpul I don't really know what exactly what to look at.

Optic is a ACSS Primary arms.

Got offset H1’s for both to qualify for here.

I’d like to snag a nice 1-10 or 2.5-10 for the 308

I finally got to zero the optic, and I have to say I'm impressed. I was somewhat skeptical about it at first, however the ACCS reticle was surprisingly easy to get used to. Zeroed at 100.

It took about 2 mags to get it dialed in where I wanted, but again that was also a breeze. Not to shill to much for Primary Arms, but frankly I love the optic. The price wasn't bad, and I really love the way they designed the reticle to be so easy to use.

Has anyone mounted a small RMR at a 45 degree offset at the very back right side? With the Aero SPR mount its all of the rail space I have left, and I think this should fit in the pic slot I have remaining at the very back but I'm not 100% sure.

And after I got it zeroed I had to wrap things up and did a mag, firing 1 second apart. Pretty happy overall with this build.

That's where I put an rmr with an arisaka offset mount. I'm not sure if it would fit in the space you have available but if you have trouble, you could switch the spr mount for a standard aero mount.

Alternatively you could mount it to the top of the scope.

I have the mount but need to buy another red dot

Awesome, I have two slots so I think I have enough room. I may look at getting the Vortex specific offset since I do like their RMR.

I was wondering, what rail is that? I like the profile a lot.

I tried it both ways.  Each has its merits.  For me, offset made more sense because I did not have to lift my head and break cheek weld.  Scope ring mount is lighter and may work better for those who shoot more heads up.

So here’s my recently built up RECCE.  It’s a little heavy at 10.2 pounds as pictured, but that’s not too terrible considering it’s got a can, light, scope and the SOPMOD and pistol grip is stuffed full of 8x CR123 batteries.  (Thermal slays batteries #TheStruggleIsReal).

All it needs now is an offset RMR once I find a suitable mount in the EE for my RMR.  It’ll probably be 10.5 pounds with the offset RMR.

Colt M4A1 marked lower (machinegun)
Colt LPK with Colt M16 FCG (RLL modified)
Griffin SOB buffer (4.9oz) with Colt car spring
Colt cage code upper (Colt UPK, bolt, CH)
Daniel Defense MFR 15.0
LaRue Stealth 16” midlength barrel
Aero Adjustable Gas Block
Vortex Razor HD 2-10X + LaRue LT104 (day)
Bering Super Yoter 3x50mm Thermal (night)
RMR RM06 + mount (TBD, not pictured)
Mbus Pro BUIS
Arisaka M600 + Malkoff E2HT + ST07
YHM Turbo K + Plan B + Cherry Bomb

Changed a few things, installed a Larue barrel and finally convinced myself that adjustable stocks are king. Also ditched the FFP LPVO for a 2.5-10 NF.  SHTF compatible

Same Colt carbine I posted on Dec. 26, 2021 except now with new Geissele ambi Super charging handle, Geissele ambi selector and B5 Systems grip (more upright angle).
