Just wondering how many loaded magazines everyone keeps on hand at any given time. I'm not talking about the night before you head to the range but just your everyday stockpile.

Enough for a basic loadout. 9 mags in vest/rifle, with a few more in a bug-out box. The rest of the ammo I may need is on stripper lips/bandoliers for quick resupply.
Then there are the ammo cans full of ammo I haven't gotten to yet. I figure the ready mags I have now are enough to overheat 2 guns. If that doensn't solve the problem, I'm really screwed. And if there is something that might require a heightened state of preparedness, say a natural disaster, flood, riot (out here in the country not so likely), there will be warning signs most likely, and I'll have time to top off additional mags. Like all of them. That'd supply a US Infantry squad at least. |

I keep my 45 loaded and thats it. Right now I have about 10 AR mags loaded but it is from a range day cut short. I know that everyone says that a pistol is over penitration for home defense but it is goverment quarters so I dont care if it messes up the walls and I dont care much for my neighbors either

40+ loaded with 855PD for plinking, 10 or so with 68 gr Black Hills
5 total
2 sets of mags clamped together. All 4 are loaded with XM193. 1 loaded with Black Hills 68gr Heavy Match |
Depends on when I was last at the range and how lazy
I am , but even at my worst I have at least 300 rounds loaded in each rifle caliber and 5 mags for each autoloading handgun . Truth is that if push came to shoot . You probably won't out live your ammo supply on your own . No matter how high speed , low drag you think you are |
One with 28 rounds of Balistic tips for home defense that stays in the safe with my Ar's. IF the SHTF, I would have time to grab my bag and load as we go. My family is my team. Oh I have 2 mags full of 45 near my bed all the time.

Don't you wish you had been there that day when they fucked with the new guy and said:
"bring me a box of batteries for the chemlights and only put 28 rounds in your 30 round mags" How many years has it been? |
I have loaded mags in my pack and ammo cans, but I always keep three 30 rounders loaded in a mag pouch for quick access, and when I use them at the range I reload them. |
1 each in both of my ARs and 5 spares loaded, unless I just got back from the range.

87!!! Now... the real answer... "how ever many you feel comfortable with." Are you planning on shooting hundreds of zombies by yourself? Do you live in an area where the possibility of riots or civil unrest or some type of natural disaster are high? Do you plan on bugging out or bugging in? Do you have other weapons that you would prefer to use first? How many ARs do you have... and if you have more than one... do you plan on giving those rifles (with extra mags) to family members or friends? How many mags can YOU personally carry with your current LBE? The answers to these questions will determine the proper amount of mags you need to keep loaded. |

Why only 28 rounds in a 30 round mag?
because 30 depresses the springs in the mags to much and they have a habit of feeding bad or gettin caught, and also wears the srping darmically tomuch for long term storage. |
10 30rdn mags loaded for the ARs
I keep 3 loaded mags for my compact 45acp Have a nice day |

9 (30rd)mags of black hills 68gr match
4 (30rd)mags of Q3131 I also keep 5 mags for my AK loaded as well. |
Whats considered long term storage? 1 year, 5 years, 10+ |
He is wrong. Ignore that. Loaded mags do not wear the springs. Loading and unloading is what places wear on the springs. This is an urban legend. |

I have a tactical bag with 4 loaded 30 round mags. It is my habit for 24 years as a 19 D to put 28 rounds in them. I purchased 4 of the new silicone spring mags and am experimenting with 30 rounds but old habits die hard. My last round in each of these mags is s tracer. I have M193 loads in these mags. I also have three full bandoliers with M193 ready to grab. I am experimenting with my version of the M262, I got a box of 20 M262 from a buddy who just got back from A Stan and I chronographed them. (2950fps at 4500 feet from a 16 inch barrel) that is a pretty hot load so be careful. I decided on the Hornady 75 Moly instead of the 77 Sierra. I may replace the M193 with these in the future.

I usually keep two loaded at all times. Today, I am loading up a few more.
As much as I hate to think it, tomorrow might be a very interesting day. Especially here in the Southwest. |
Orion, I hear ya! I work downtown. Some of the comments I've heard this past week have been "interesting."

Are people worried about waking up and seeing a world like in Mad Max?
according to someone's mother's sister's uncle's brother who heard it at 31 flavors |
Minimum: 21 mags (7 mags for each of my 3 ARs)
Maximum: All my 35 mags when I have plenty of ammo. |
I keep a 20 round clip full of TAP in my AR
8 30 round clips in bandoleers full 2 Ammo cans full of ammo on stripper clips w/2 speed loaders 10 new 30rd magazines ready to be filled |
+1 I keep 9 Loaded. Nathan |

3-29's in my 5.11 vest along with 2-15 Glock mags.
12-29's in my grab-and-go ammo can. That leaves enough room for shotgun and pistol ammo, too. I also want to add a couple more cans. Ya never know. . . . |
For the AR's, 14 30 round mags to 28 rounds. If that doesn't do it, I have a whole lot of loaded AK drums and mags.
I keep 8 loaded, 4 of them in mag couplers, 2 mag coupled mags in my rifle, 2 mag coupled vest on my assault vest, and 4 mags in my tac. leg pouch. All the mags are 30 rounders and I have a few 20 round mags loaded up in my range bag.
well all i can say is find out for yourself, ever wonder why the military puts 27 instead of 30
hmmm let me see. |
6.
Would be 8 but I keep 2 in the bag because the local range requires the use of their ammo |
